I smell smoke.

Is the apartment on fire?

I’ll check the hallway.

No smoke here.

If it were a floor above me I may not see smoke, so I’ll look up the stairwell.

No smoke here.

Hmm.

Back in the apartment, I can still smell it.

Maybe it’s coming from the alley?

I’ll open a window and check.

Yes. The smell is much stronger, now.

Ugh. This is going to drive me nuts.

I’ll put on clothes and check out the alley.

Oh. Yeah. There it is.

I have no idea what they’re burning.

It doesn’t smell like food.

Back to work and then off to the dentisht.

Don’t worry. Primescan is switched OFF.

My teeth are bad, but a little bit less bad, now.

Reddit.

I get an alert that someone is giving away comic books.

I check the post and I respond that I am interested and that my plan is to read the comic books and then mail them to a friend in Michigan.

The post instructions say that another profile will respond, and I receive a response to swing by and pick them up.

They mention that the doorbell at their building doesn’t work.

I swap phone numbers with the person and get an address, and I take a rideshare car to the location and I send them a message and I wait.

I send another message and I wait.

I send their reddit profile a message and I wait.

I’m taking a break from work and I need to get back, I have a meeting.

I send them one last response wishing them well with their giveaway and I post what happened on the reddit post because I’m not sure what to make of the situation.

No one is trying to scam me, there’s no money, but I did get ghosted.

We were messaging as I was heading over, but then I was suddenly ignored.

Maybe someone else came and grabbed the comics already?

On the post I share that I took a rideshare and got ghosted and that I’m not sure what to make of it and leave a “stay safe” message.

I feel obligated to warn folks.

I’m sure it was a mistake, but in case there is something nefarious I want folks to know what happened to me, but I can’t think of an end game where this could be nefarious.

I mean, I guess if someone were to send folks to an ex’s house or something, maybe something like that…

I get a reply after the public post from the person who messaged me on reddit.

Their phone was on do-not-disturb.

I share that I’m not upset and that I’ve made the exact same mistake before and that I am still interested, but that I’ll need to take the bus there which is a bit slower.

We agree to meet again and I successfully pick up every box and bag of comic books up for offer.

I arrange for a rideshare to pick me up, because this is too much for a bus.

There are many comic books, but also some manga as well.

And other than the transportation cost, this was totally free.

I spoke with the guy giving them away and he has hired a professional declutterer to help him, and this is who posted the reddit post.

Time to sort through some comics again.

There’s a big batch of Marvel and Boom! comics, but plenty of other miscellaneous items in here as well.

This is going to take some time to get sorted, but I’m very excited to have this.

I give away my comics, too.

It’s nice to be able to read them, but I’m not interested in keeping a collection.

Man. I love sorting these.

I also hate it, but mostly I love it.

Let me just say a quick “thank you” to everyone who uses neighborhood free groups, reddit, or anything to share the love with strangers.

It’s super cool.

Still sorting through comics.

Suicide Squad is interesting.

I think this is the same one that that the movie is based on.

Still loving the current run of X-Men.

The Silver Coin, this one is unique.

I only have the one issue, but as far as I can tell this comic is about a cursed coin and the various folks across time who interact with it.

Soon we shall craft.

My partner Lauri and I spend some time looking for crafting items at Five Below, and this Hot Wheels monster truck is what I land on.

I guess you just open it and paint it?

It’s still too cold outside to do anything, so crafting is a good way to stay engaged.

I had four colors, black, white, yellow, and blue and this is what I came up with.

It’s fine.

And it’s still snowy out.

Holy shit.

If you ever want to cry, read this.

The snow is beginning to clear up.

I’m going to head down to the coffee shop and read some comics.

I recently ordered some old comics off of the internet to fill in some missing issues and this box that they came in is fantastic for carying them in a backpack to the coffee shop.

I need to get one of those plastic comic book cases for transporting comics.

The important thing is that I have more issues of Vox, which I am fascinated with.

I’m still missing the last issue, but I’m satisfied with as many as I was able to find for being a comic from the 80s. Well, 80’s and 90s. The last two issues were released in 1990, if this website is accurate: https://www.keycollectorcomics.com/series/vox-1,97109/?artist=7396

I am so glad that I ordered these.

When I had just issue three the story didn’t make a lot of sense. There were characters that I didn’t understand.

Some of it is still a bit wacky even with the bigger picture, like why no one tried to rescue Belloc.

That felt weird.

But this art is truly amazing, and the story is fantastic.

And this is a big reason why I have been enjoying digging through discount comic books and picking out anything that looks fun.

There’s a ton of hidden gems out there and Vox is one of my favorites.

And the coffee shop is nice.

No pictures from today, but I had a health scare and I want to document it here.

I stood up and got a bit light headed, so I sat down, and the light headedness didn’t dissipate.

That can’t be good.

I need to lose weight.

You never see old folks who are over weight.

And I’d like to become an old folk.

So, uh…

Time to make some changes.

The goal is to make small and sustainable changes and the first thing that I’ll cut back on is the sugary creamer I use in my coffee.

I’ll use half milk and half creamer.

That should put a dent into my sugar intake.

I plan on going to Japan soon and I’d like to lower my weight before I go.
