Cheesecake and coffee in the park!

Kinokuniya!

Do you know those pens that have three or four colors in them, where you press down the color you want and it will click out of the end, and if you press another color a little, the previous color will retract?
You can make custom ones with supplies at this store.
I bought one here about a month ago and broke it recently.
When my Android phone stopped working I decided to give Google a call to se if there was anything that they could do and they wanted me to get an ID number off of the sim card tray and I don’t have one of those sim card opener tools any more since my phone didn’t take a storage card.
Long story short, I broke my pen and Google told me my warranty was expired so I now have two broken things instead of one.
So I grabbed a couple of replacement pieces so that I wouldn’t have a half broken multi-color pen lying around. ๐คทโโ๏ธ
We heard that the Macy’s in Manhattan has the last working wooden escalator, so we stopped in to check it out.

I’ll be damned.
A wooden escalator.

Also this Macy’s is kind of awesome.

Today I have the day off because my partner will be under anesthesia and will need to be escorted home.
I think they wanted someone to drive her home, but a shoulder to lean on while taking the subway is the New York way.
I think.
I don’t know.
We haven’t been here that long.
So.
The plan is that I’ll leave before my partner goes to her hospital thing and I’ll go straight to the DMV to get my license switched over.
I tried to go previously but they needed a medical certificate as I have a CDL (Commercial Driver’s License).
The kind of license required to drive semi trucks/lorries.
I don’t have one currently because I am not using the CDL, but I also put a lot of time and effort into it and I do not want to lose it.
It’s always a great backup plan.

I pre-scheduled my spot, but this seems to be a busier time of year as I couldn’t get a spot at any of the closer places like I went to last time.
I suspect this is because it is nearly time to vote and the deadline to register is near.
This is not one of the quick locations, I find out.
I end up spending nearly three hours at this DMV.
I got called up fairly quickly only to find out that the first line is to get a picture taken and the second line is much longer.
I did eventually get my turn and the clerk attempts to send me away as I only have a printout of my medical card.
Not the old type with a “wet signature.”
I told the clerk the same thing the doctor told me “These are digital only as of April, 2024.”
I continued to push back. “Man, I can’t come back. This is my second trip and I did everything I was told to do from my first visit. There is no physical card for me to go and pick up.”
He pulled someone else over who told him to make a copy of my copy and I walked out of there with a paper ID.
New York takes the old ones.
I still have several old Texas IDs lying around as they don’t take them when you’re done with them there.
But enough small talk! I’ve been getting text messages from the doctor’s office that Lauri will be released from the hospital soon.
I run to the subway, barely catch my train, hop off and jog to the hospital where a nice German fellow explains which floor I need to go to and I make it in time.
Barely.
Whew!
Lauri is feeling better than expected, so we poke around the city for a bit.

I also talked her into trying on my glasses.

Before heading home we see some awesome Halloween decorations.

If you look closely at the bottom of the building you can see Gozor and the two demon dogs from Ghostbusters.
I remember why I have this picture.
So I’ll just make something up.

I sent in some bad sketches to a bar design contest and I guess one of the judges is super into Noir because I won! (This is made up. I have no idea why I have this picture on my phone).
I’m pretty sure this is the menu at a Bar we went to.
Saturday October 26th, 2024
It is a new day and tonight we are scheduled to attend a Halloween burlesque show.

I sometimes just agree to stuff without really knowing what they are.
This event is sort of like a horror themed nude bar, but without the nudity.

Amazing effects, talented singers and dancers and a great trash talking host.
I am uncomfortable the entire time.
I was excited to go out with company, but I was really looking forward to the event ending so that I could socialize instead.
Unfortunately, it was not meant to be.
We went straight home after this show.
Although I can now say that I’ve seen a sexy Mike Myers strip tease.

Governors Island!
We’re going again!
This time I’ll ask where the National Park Passport stamp is on the way in.

There are two locations, the first of which is at this fort in the gift shop.
The ranger was kind enough to open the store a little bit early so that I could get my stamp.

Kids like it too.

I have this unfortunate habit of getting the names of Governors Island and Roosevelt Island mixed up.
I live very close to Roosevelt Island, and Governors Island requires a lot of travel and a ferry to reach.
When I was looking for a Halloween farm visit I discovered that Governors Island has an event where we can get a pumpkin, but in my head this was at Roosevelt Island.
So besides the stamp, we’ll grab a pumpkin while we’re here.
The line to get coffee is soooooo long today.
Luckily, I found a guy who sells coffee at another stand without a line.

Time to poke around the island a little bit.
We need to get a pumpkin and get it home before the basketball game tonight.
We’re meeting some folks who moved to NYC from England recently.

A pumpkin has been selected!

Back to the ferry and back to the home base.

…
There was a Pikachu in front of me in line. Possibly a Charrizard as well.
I don’t remember seeing this.
How did I not notice this until preparing this blog post?
There are a few ways to get home, but the Astoria ferry is nearby.
That will be a fun way to get home and will only have us using one connection rather than three or four if we went with subways and busses.

It is a nice ride on the ferry.

Past the Statue of Liberty.

And under this guy.

I mean “this bridge.”

That’s the Brooklyn Bridge, right?

I don’t know the bridges very well.
Probably because I’m not driving.

Taking the ferry home was a very good idea.
We should do this more often.

Okay, back home to unload the pumpkin and the national park passport stamp book.

It’s filling in nicely.

I need to catch up on some of these stickers, though.
Off to the basketball game!
It’s the Nets vs the Bucks!

This basketball arena is the hardest to get into that we’ve ever been to.
We were stuck in this line even after the game had started.
But we didn’t miss too much.

A fun game.
Nets won.
It was very close for the first three quarters, but then the Nets took a commanding lead and the Bucks never recovered.
We went and got some tacos after the game with our new friends and we had a nice time.
A fantastic day.

Went and did a quick early vote since I’m registered now and helped Lauri with her spooky work food.
She’s making “Basghetti” for the office.
Worms in dirt.
I helped with the worms.

Mix cream & Jell-O, cool them in bendy straws, force the Jell-O out with a spoon.

Successful spookiness.

Next weekend we go out for Lauri’s birthday celebrations! (A robot makes us coffee).
See you next time, amigos!
Keanu says “Hi.”
