๐Ÿ“” The Book of Good Times & Tom’s Juice

Friday November 29th, 2024

The Book of Good Time is a book by Hank Green which recently completed a round of Kickstarted funding.

I have never backed a Kickstarter project until this and I am happy to say that last night, the book arrived!

As yesterday (Thanksgiving, the day we went to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade) was too cold and wet for most of the things that I like to go out and do, today became a day for planning.

My goal is to find a nice coffee shop and plan for warmer days.

Finding campsites in Texas was a little bit difficult, but the further you got away from the major cities the easier it became.

Here in New York City I no longer have a car and so my goal is to find a park I can get to via transit, though renting a car is not out of the question.

I was able to find a park and since winter is just beginning there is still availability to reserve camping sites in Summer.

Well, spring.

I reserved and paid for a two day site for the end of May and have scheduled the day off of work.

I hate scheduling this far out, but camping in the area is a bit difficult.

I have received one of my Christmas gifts early due to the size and usability.

Pictured here under my work desk is a jigsaw puzzle table.

This is truly a delight.

There’s another Hank Green book in the picture above.

In case you might purchase The Book of Good Times I will not be sharing much of the inside of the book.

One part of the book does require an online post which I have completed previously and so I will discuss this aspect in further detail.

Draw a turtle in the dark? No problem.

Unless I forgot to push out a bit of lead in my mechanical pencil and ended up with an etching instead of a drawing.

Oops.

Attempt two was “successful.”

As I have mentioned, this has been posted about on this blog previously.

A later step in this book requires discussing the book online and so I posted a bit out of order.

Pls forgive.

This book reminds me a little bit of Wreck This Journal which I enjoy greatly, but one item that separates these two books is that The Book of Good Times is meant to be completed in order and without looking ahead.

This is why I am cautious about over sharing.

A benefit of doing these tasks in order is that I don’t end up with choice paralysis.

The down-side of this system is that it is easier to feel held up.

Stuck.

I put the book down while I was waiting for a good moment to complete a more complicated task and haven’t picked it up in a bit because of this.

But enough comparing these books.

This is its own book and it is a fantastic one.

Highly suggest.

I am more than halfway complete and I look forward to what else this book has to offer.

As the holidays approach, it is time to get festive.

We shall take a train out to a fun Christmas shop.

The Grinch section alone is a sight to behold!

Got some new Hank Aaron stamps to add to the collection for sending international postcards with.

This particular postcard is being sent to The Netherlands.

I write about subways on this card and ask for travel tips for Japan.

My pal Tony in Michigan will also receive a postcard.

I chat about how learning Japanese has slightly changed the way that I write English letters.

Specifically the letter “I.”

I used to write the vertical bar first, but now I start with the upper horizontal bar so that the spacing between letters is worked out.

Today’s postcard is headed to Germany.

The conversation on this card is about visiting national and state parks.

A page of Wreck This Journal that has been haunting me is the “hide this page in your neighbor’s yard” one.

I kept meaning to put this in my neighbor’s yard in Austin, but I never got around to it.

It feels weird to do it to a stranger here in Queens, but I have completed this task.

Roughly twenty tasks remain until this book is complete.

Here’s more pictures from Christmas shopping in NYC.

Lauri made a custom bath bomb at Lush.

And we found Tom’s Juice.

I took a picture of this so that I could send it to my pal Tommy.

He was delighted.

As we are in December my partner Lauri has been opening up her advent calendar boxes that I created for her using 24 face masks.

Unfortunately there is one that goes too far into the yuck zone and so she has saved for me the snail face masks.

I made a matching hair band for our face mask night.

These keep the hair out of our eyes and face while wearing the masks.

My headband is made from sleep headphones and two socks.

It did a great job of keeping hair out of my face and mask.

But now we need to talk about Penny.

She’s a weird cat.

Evidence:

She drowns her toys.

And this:

But she really is adorable.

Good night Penny.
