๐Ÿน Pedernales Fossils & a Bunch of Postcards

Austin, Texas Tuesday December 12 9:35 am 48ยฐ F (9ยฐ C).

This is the refrigerator of my pal Dan who lives across the parking lot from me. That South Padre Island card is one that I recently sent to him and I see that he placed it near a postcard that I sent him years ago.

I forgot about that card.

I believe I sent that during covid when I was going a bit stir crazy.

What a delight to see this card that I had forgotten about.

On Sunday Lauri & I went to Pedernales Falls State Park about an hour outside of Austin to visit the Set in Stone event hosted by the park’s interpreter.

This was a delightful event that paid off twice.

First we learned about the area and how Texas has gone above and below water over thousands of years and this has led to many ancient water creature fossils being found in this area.

These white spots are fossils of feeder animals that used to live at the bottom of these waters.

There are also these interesting potholes where a small dent filled with gravel and rocks that swirl around when water comes through causing the holes to become larger as the rocks inside swirl around.

Here are some better pictures of this visit that Lauri took.

After the learning and the tour by the fantastic park ranger we were treated to another amazing sight. The ranger on his way out spotted a snake!

See that little shiny ribbon near the orange leaves on the left?

The ranger, Lauri and myself were the only ones who witnessed this beautiful creature this morning.

What a lucky sight.

The ranger believes this is the same snake that was reported for hissing at some park visitors the previous week.

Postcards!

Here’s a big ol’ piece of cardboard that I shipped to my pal Tony in Michigan.

This cardboard is the backing of a shipment of stamps that I ordered from USPS.

I put stamps on the stamp thing and mailed it again.

I find this amusing, do not judge me.

I was also able to use up all of the Supreme stickers in my collection.

I am not familiar with this brand and this is why I focused using these stickers as a background and putting cooler stamps on top.

I’m proud of this card, though writing on brown cardboard is a bit of a pain.

I believe this is the postcard that I recently sent to Slovenia with postcrossing. This museum in Utah is amazing, by the way. An excellent place to visit if you’re ever in the Salt Lake City area.

On Saturday we spent the day with Lauri’s family. We had delicious ramen at one point which made me sick for about an hour, but it seems like that this is common side effect for some people due to the broth’s high salt & fat content.

Lauri may be starting a gang. I believe this best explains her hand positioning.

This may also also explain why she beat me at several games at the arcade earlier on this Saturday.

I have a tiny pack of these paper foldy letters. I finally sent the awkward “i love you” one to my pal Tony. He gets the oddball ones.

I recently bought a new type of coffee and the beans are much smaller, harder and greener than I am used to.

The second picture above is a new pack of Grain of Selim that I recently ordered.

Grain of Selim is a nice addition to brewed coffee which I added to the mix this morning along with this heirloom coffee.

Fascinating drink.

Another postcard for Tony. I practiced drawing shapes on the other side of this one before writing in it and shipping it out.

Learning to draw has been a nice topic lately. I’m focusing on basic 3-D shapes and perspectives atm.

Oh look. Another postcard for Tony. This one out of a piece of cardboard that came with some markers.

And finally the last and tiniest postcard that I have shipped to Tony, thus far.

It was a good weekend that included a family visit, an arcade, learning, exploring, postcarding and more.

Thank you for joining me on this journey.
