Monday February 5th, 2024. Austin, Texas. Cloudy, 55ยฐF (13ยฐ C).
On the first of February I ended my day by completing a daily journal which said “What do you want to accomplish tomorrow?”
To which I replied “Fuck!” because for about a week I have been meaning to get up early and make a quick trip to a hidden stone windmill in Austin. It’s about a fifteen minute drive from me in good traffic, and closer to thirty minutes most of the time because traffic in Austin is terrible.
The Journal sealed the deal, though. Tomorrow I must complete the trek.
And I did.

Evidence.
I woke up early.
I made the trip.

I had to park three blocks away as there is a creek between the path with the windmill and the street.
At least this is what seemed to be true while driving.
As I walked down the final stretch I did see a dilapidated bridge that I could have used for crossing.

Quick note, I found this location thanks to Atlas Obscura.
Now before I show you the pictures, I do not know if this was, in fact, a windmill.
There are pipes on the inside which make me think that this may have been used for pumping water and not for milling.

It was a good day. I returned home for some of my favorite coffee and had a busy day at work

Saturday, February 3rd.
Once a month the old jailhouse in Fredericksburg, Texas is opened up to the public for viewing.
It was closed in the late 1930s and used for storage until it was opened for public viewing in 2019.
It is a small, chilly two story building that was designed to withstand Texas heat, but unfortunately is not a good fit for a Texas winters and a stove system had to be added to the cells.

The first floor also had living quarters for staff.
The thing that I found to be the most interesting is that the top floor was a cell within a cell.
This made it difficult for someone to toss items up and through a window to any prisoners and it also left a circle around the cells for exercise.
It was a short visit, but an interesting one.
There is plenty to do in Fredericksburg on the weekend and we also did a bit of shopping while we were here.

There was a lovely store with loads of sauces, jams and even fancy oils & vinegars.
We purchased a glaze & a jelly.

What is Mayhaw?
I don’t know.
It’s tasty.
I’ll research this more later.
We also had coffee at a place whose bathroom made me feel like I was hallucinating.

Also here’s a neat old building.

Sunday was a potato day. ๐ฅ
Video games with friends Chad & Lisa.
I had a single winning round of Quiplash 2 while Lauri took the win for pretty much everything else.
