I accidentally fixed my CPAP machine, I spent too much money on a wallet, postcards as always, but comic books. I have a new obsession with reading discount comic books. Let’s go!
Tuesday January 27th, 2026
I recently spend the most I’ve ever spent on a new wallet to get a cool one where you press a button and the cards slide up and out of the wallet.
The card count on the website for how many credit cards this thing can hold was way off, and then it broke.
Here are the images I submitted while requesting a refund.

Rest in peace shitty low-quality wallet that I over-paid for.
After this debacle I went to the buy it for life reddit group and found a new place to buy a wallet from.
IGot to pick the leather and stitching colors for the new wallet. It’s fancy.
Tony, my pal in Michigan found an amazing postcard, so he sent it to me.
Behold!

I voted early.

Granny Keanu.

Monday February 2nd, 2026
Granny Remus.

She’s being cute. Let’s give her head scratches.

Did you know she has a face on her butt?

Tuesday February 3rd, 2026
Oh, I got one of the nice and new subway trains today!

I do believe it’s time to send Tony a postcard.

On this postcard I told Tony about how I was messing with the settings on my CPAP machine and realized that it has a “nose pillow mask” setting and that I had it set to “full face mask.”
Um.
That made the CPAP machine much nicer.
Less pressure.
Less whistly noises when slipping off during sleep.
No idea why I took this picture of oat milk, but here it is.

Thursday February 5th, 2026
FedEx had me sign for a stack of Yen today.

As foretold by the internet, this does not, in fact, fit into my new wallet.
I shall carry this in a coin purse and buy a new wallet when I am in Japan.
I think I’ll make my first stop at the giant Don Quixote in Akihabara for a wallet and any other basic items that I’ll need.
Penny finding new places to explore.

Naughty places.
Saturday February 7th, 2026
It is the weekend which means the Astoria outlet for Midtown Comics is open and selling 99 cent comic books.
This time I remembered to get pictures.

Oh, and it’s half-off day so there are 50 cent comics today.
Also I bought a $30 box of independent comics and had to arrange for a ride-share to get them home.
I would prefer to avoid carrying this on the bus.

Well, I mean, now that I’ve done it a couple of times I might be willing to try it.
It’s not like the bus would be packed at this time-of-day.
Besides the box, I also bought a bunch of 50 cent comics which are in a paper bag inside of the reusable grocery bag.
When stacked up (bagged and boarded), this stack is about this big.

A great haul.
Here’s what it looks like laid out at home.

Let’s crack open this box and see what’s inside.

Future Levi popping in to say that I’ve only read one issue of Bloodshot, but it’s surprisingly good.

Loads of Valiant comics in this box.

Loads of duplicates of Faith as well.

Oh, one of the 50 cent comic books I picked up is this oldie.

The app that I used to track comic books didn’t have this one on file. I scanned the cover and manually added it.
1960s white-washed history galore in this one.
Do not suggest.

These pictures of comic books are going to keep going for a bit.

Grabbing a little bit of everything to see what I like and what I’d like to read more of.

Oblivion… I think this is based on the two movies of the same name.
The one where the writer wanted to make it clear that the drunken Star Trek references that George Takei kept making were not written by him.

If it looks pulpy, I’ll be buying it.

Skateboarding zombie dude? Hell yeah.
Unfortunately the “comic” above (which is signed) is more of a catalogue of upcoming releases.

Had some good luck with some Star Trek DC comics recently, so I grabbed a few more.

If any of these catch my interest I’ll be adding them to a pile of “find more of these on the cheap, later.”

I see a lot of issues of this in the 99 cent comics.
If it’s good, there’s a lot of issues to be found.

Thank you camera for focusing on the cat butt rather than the comic.

I love Robotech. If this comic is any good, I would love to get more.
(I did not get more).

Speaking of Robotech, I also picked up Southern Cross as it might be Robotech adjacent.
(It was not Robotech adjacent).

This is another series that has many issues in the 99 cent bin, and that I may look for more issues of.

Spooky.

That comic in the top right of the image above opens with a naked lion man. Full frontal nudity. (I bought more of this series, it was a lot of fun).
In the bottom middle is Area 88 and olde manga / anime that was released in the US when I was a teen. Cool to check out. I would love to get a bunch of old issues of Viz manga releases from the 90s. Ranma, Urusei Yatsura (Lum), Gunnm (Battle Angel Alita), and more. Viz had some great stuff.
Oh, and Vox in the middle!
I read and fell absolutely in love with this comic.
I started with issue #3 which was very strange and I bought 4 more issues (out of 6) to see more of this weirdness, but instead of being more unusual, it made more sense and it truly has a great story to tell.
What a delight to read.
Highly suggest.

Oh hey, there’s naked lion-man’s mouth sticking out of the holder hole on the box.

This guy.
This one was so much fun to read. I also ended up with 5 of the 6 in this series (or was it 4 of the 5) and had a great time.
For both Vox and The Worst Dudes I was able to score all issues except for the last one, so I don’t know how either ends, but I enjoyed the heck out of them and have mailed them to my friend Heather in Michigan.
Some of these comics have typos in them.

Some of these comic books contain floppy disks.

I’m trying out this Straczynski story as I’ve seen most of the issues in the 99c ben and because I love Babylon 5 and the old The Real Ghostbusters cartoon, both of which were also written by Staczynski.
(Future Levi again, This series is loads of fun. Great story.)

Here’s that issue of Vox that turned me onto the series. Love this.

Just had some dental work done, so grabbing my comics on the way home, but I’m a little bit too early.
The comic shop isn’t open yet, so I’ll grab a coffee and a bagel and wait it out.

Here’s a view of my pen & paper roleplaying game shelf.
I’m hoping to get a group started for an RPG, soon.

That cardboard box on the bottom right contains this.

My favorite books get grocery bag covers, like Index Card RPG.

These are the tiny indie RPGs from the shelf.

All Keanu approved, as shown above.
SHE APPROVES EVERYTHING!

Wednesday February 11th, 2026
And I approve nothing!

Well, except for picking up my comic book subscription from the store.

I am so excited to read these Saturday Morning Adventures Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics.

These are fantastic.

And because I’m reading the main X-Men series, the store sets aside comics like this issue of Cyclops that they think I might be interested in as well.
Oh, and I mentioned that wallet that I ordered where I got to pick the leather and stitching colors!
It arrived!

Pretty cool.
But the Yen that arrived in the mail does not fit into it.
Oh, I finished reading through Marvel Civil War II, but then this ended up in the collection. One of the missing issues.

Let’s send a postcard to Tony.
He and I met in Nebraska, so this postcard should be a good one.

And here is the view from my new dentist’s chair.

That’s nice that they offer ceiling Netflix, but I brought an audiobook.

The view is nice, too.

Okay, now that dental work is done, it’s time to sort these comics in the giant box.

There’s so many.
250+ comics in here.

Hmm. Free comic book day comics. That’s not my favorite thing to find.

This one is a little bit damaged on the edge there.
Here’s a better pic.

Some duplicates as well.

I did a whole breakdown of the comic book box and if we remove all of the duplicates and free comics, I ended up paying about 21 cents per comic.
This box was mostly filled with Valiant comics, but there were a few Marvel and DC comic books hiding in there.
Saturday February 14th, 2026
Let’s send a postcrossing postcard.
What country did I draw today?
Poland!
Dear friend in Poland, I hope that you enjoy this Turkey postcard.

Shared some travel stories about the road trip in September and about the upcoming (late April, 2026) trip to Tokyo.
Today’s main event will be to see a live performance of Hold on to Your Butts!

Lauri is trying out her psionic powers in this selfie.

Some glasses in the bar upstairs shattered and she had to stop.

We have loved every performance we have seen from this group, and this is kind of their main one.
I think they’re getting in some practice runs before Fringe Fest over in the UK.
A fantastic show by an amazing team of performers.
If you ever get to see anything by Recent Cut Backs, you’re in for a treat.
And now for some French food.

Man, that came out blurry. My phone is in a mood.

The restaurant accidentally charged us for someone else’s dessert and made fun of me when I asked them to double check it.
They eventually figured out that the mistake was theirs and apologized, but… Y’know. Fuck them.
Honest mistake, rude server.
Won’t be back.
Sunday February 15th, 2026
Let’s make another run to the discount comic book store.
I’ll get more pictures this time.

Upstairs has the figures, but I tend to dwell in the basement with the comics.

I, uh, got another $30 box of comics as well as a stack of 99 cent comics again.

This box had a much better spread of comic books, though I’m not dissatisfied with the first.
I did have loads of duplicates in the first, and I’ve given them away to various folks.

I’m going to end this post here, but despite buying over 500 comic books, there will be more in the next post.
ADHD hyper focus thing, probably.
See you in the next post.
Cheers.
