๐Ÿ˜ผ The Adventures of Penny the Cat + Omakase

October is almost over. Penny has learned to burrow under pillows and blankets. We visit the location where George Washington said goodbye to his officers after the end of the American Revolutionary War. Lauri and I eat at an omakase. Oh! And there’s origami.

Penny is now clean.

Tuesday October 21st, 2025

Now that Penny is clean, she must hide from the smell of pizza.

With pizza taken care of, we’ll need some drinks.

And to make a quick run out to the store.

“For what?” you ask.

I do not know.

I forgot to write it down in my notes.

I believe I was playing Starbound on the gaming PC this evening.

Wednesday October 22nd, 2025

Keanu and Penny are playing.

Until they get caught!

Busted.

Now you may see all of this drinking, gaming, and cats being rambunctious and think to yourself “Where is Lauri? Wouldn’t she be able to reign in this nonsense?”

And the answer to your judgmental question is “No. She’s in Portland.”

Having some time to herself to read and go to basketball games for her birthday.

Ever since Penny has discovered that she can burrow under pillows and blankets she has made it a part of her personality.

This is our life now. Penny under pillows.

Saturday October 25th, 2025

Burrowing continues.

Maybe this should be the Penny Under Things blog.

Oh, and I got a nice postcard from Germany!

This lovely writer shared details about the small town that they live in.

In my previous post, A Day in Queens, I mentioned an adventure ticket box that sent Lauri and I to a flea market store thing.

I’ve been disappointed with the two tickets that I’ve pulled from here, but then I was able to pull the next one and move on.

It was also not impressive, so I opened the box and read over every ticket and this is not a challenge I wish to complete any longer.

These adventures on these tickets are not for me, so to salvage what I can, I have converted part of the box into a postcard.

This one has been mailed to my pal Tony in Michigan.

Let’s dig through the adventure list and see what ideas are on here that I might be able to complete tonight.

Origami?

Let’s do that.

I haven’t done that in a while and I should have some origami paper around here somewhere…

Here it is.

Let’s try to make a snail for Lauri.

Success!

Tuesday October 28th, 2025

Today is a great day to early vote here in Queens.

And also a great day to accidentally take a picture of the bottom of my head so that I question myself whether or not I’m shaving the beard in the right spot.

Save to the curve of the neck, right?

This lighting is terrible.

It makes it look like I have gray hairs.

But you know what never ages?

Postcards.

Let’s send another.

Thursday October 30th, 2025

We have three things to discuss for this lovely Thursday.

  1. A.I. Advertisements in the subway

2. A magic show with The Muppets

3. Penny’s ear

The discussions

  1. An A.I. friend app feels weird. Maybe in the future this will be a good idea, but at the moment I do not think it is. A.I. hallucinations are weird. I remember the first time I tried to play an A.I. RPG it became clear very quickly that it was more of a twisted wish fulfillment simulator. There was no challenge or risk of failure, but the system would let you do all kinds of weird things and I lost interest after a single session. I imagine this would be a similar experience.
  2. The magic show was fine. I wish there were more Muppets. The show did not make it. Folks who had tickets after the first couple of weeks of the run were refunded.
  3. I’m in the middle of paying an artist to draw artwork for our upcoming Christmas cards, but there was one small mistake. Penny’s ear was not clipped in the artwork. I took this photo to share what Penny’s ear looks like with the artist. Notice my bald head on the left. Oh, and the place that we adopted Penny from did not think she would be adopted or domesticated, so they did this to mark that she has been spayed.

Today and for the first time I will take a tour that I haven taken previously.

The tour at Fraunces Tavern Museum is fantastic and if you ever come to visit New York City, I would suggest making a trip here to take the tour.

And what the heck. Let’s send another postcard.

This postcard is of The Van Cortlandt House Museum.

Off to Michigan you go, postcard.

So during the tour our guide mentioned a hidden owl on a $1 bill, so I took one out of my wallet so that he could point it out.

See it there under that little curve?

Or is that a spider?

I don’t want to spoil the tour, but you will be standing in the place where George Washington said goodbye to his officers at the end of the American Revolutionary War.

After the tour we took a short walk to a nearby famous cemetery which contains Alexander Hamilton’s Gravesite.

The day is young, and we don’t often find ourselves down in the Wall Street part of town, so let’s grab some coffee at a book shop by the water.

McNally Jackson Books Seaport

Outside, a man is making sidewalk art for one of the local businesses.

But we should get home and rest.

So that we can go out again!

Because tonight we have a reservation at Omakaseed Vegan by Sushi by Bou.

An Omakase is where food dishes selected by the chef are served to the customer.

This is a small location inside of a bar that is inside of a hotel in Manhattan.

We’ve eaten here before and loved it, but we were a little bit under the weather that day and wanted to try it again.

Tonight is the night!

See the selfie.

Notice the ingredients that the two chefs have lined up.

A wonderful evening with a wonderful lady.

Our chef.

Oh, and my partner Lauri is here, too.

Joking aside, the food and experience here is fantastic.

Sunday November 2nd, 2025

This morning Lauri and I take a trip to Bryant Park and I try pastil for the first time.

Back at home Keanu is deep in thought.

“I know where they keep the food. Could I just feed myself?”

“I bet I could feed myself.”
