This week is a relaxing one. I play some EverQuest with my pal Tony and I go out to meet new people and play role playing games here in the city. Have you ever played Microscope?

For the life of me, I do not remember why I took a picture of the EverQuest RPG book that I use as a mousepad, but I did and now we all have to live with it.

Today let’s send a postcard to Tony in Michigan.

I’ve been sending him a lot of my space cards lately.
Let’s also send a postcard to Jerry in Nebraska.

I used to be roommates with both Jerry and Tony.

Here’s another picture of the EverQuest roleplaying game book, but this time of a map on the inside.

I’ve been playing EverQuest (the online video game, not the pen and paper RPG) lately and I have been using this map to figure out where the different zones are.

Last weekend Lauri and I went out and tie dyed some shopping bags.
After twenty-four hours of soaking up the dye, I washed them out until the water ran clear and then I hung them in the bathroom to dry.
They are now complete.

I should have used more dye.

I love this bag.
Here’s the other one that Lauri dyed.

Oh, Remus came to say “Hi.”

Check out my sick lap desk for playing EverQuest in bed.
Hell yeah.

Today is a social day.
I joined a pen and paper roleplaying game group in Astoria, New York.
Tonight the game of Microscope that I signed up for will be played.
I’ve played Microscope before.
I love this game and I look forward to meeting new people.
Also I made sourdough bread in the Dutch oven.
Check out this bad boy.

I also made spaghetti.
You can never have too many carbs.

Listen.
I took a picture of spaghetti, so you’re hearing about spaghetti.
I don’t make the blog rules, I just write the blog posts.
If there’s a picture, it gets talked about.
Make sure to add enough salt so that the water becomes “sea watery.”
If you’re not doing this, give it a shot.
Your pasta will taste twice as good.
What’s behind this bag on the counter?

Oh, it’s a shoe.

I was supposed to find Lauri’s shoes and when I couldn’t find them in the obvious place right away I took these pictures to show that they were in a weird place that I couldn’t be expected to find them in.
I did not fake the picture.
Lauri definitely put one of her shoes on the kitchen counters standing upright and accidentally covered it with a dish towel.
Probably.
Penny agrees.

Let’s take a moment to chat about the game Microscope.
It’s a group story-telling game played with index cards and imagination.
Players take turns adding new pieces of information to a society until the history is filled in from beginning to end.
Our society begins with “The schism” and ends with “The religion completes its objective.”
In the middle is “The disco disaster.”

Not so different than our current society, really.
Art imitates life.
By the end of this game, the pope is less effective and Johnny Scribes ascends twice.

And there’s hive-mind worms.
A fantastic game that went significantly off the rails.
Our gracious hosts are fantastic and everyone has a great time.
I love Microscope, or any of the games by Ben Robbins.
I have several.
Also our amazing hosts have awesome fridge magnets and it turns out what they have is awesome stickers and the ability to turn them into magnets.
I ask them what they used to do this and they were kind enough to show me.

I need to buy some of this to make my own magnets.
Have I added this to the adventure list?
I’m adding this to the adventure list.

During this game one of the players mentions that she is also hosting a game on Saturday that has room for one more player and I ask to join.
Today we will be playing Alice is Missing.
This is a much darker game about a girl who has gone missing.
The players pick roles and set relationships with the other characters and then the game is played through text messages.
Well, they’re played through a game app and presented as text messages.
There’s a group chat and direct messages between all of the players.
I am playing the young man who had a crush on Alice who is planning to ask her on a date.
He’s not the brightest, but he has a big heart.
By the end of the game we discover that Alice has been stranded and injured in a cave for days, but was able to crawl out and use her phone to reach out.
My character offered to bring a wheelbarrow to help bring Alice home.
It was decided by the group that an ambulance would be a better decision.
I did not take any pictures of this game, so here is a picture of Penny instead.

And a selfie.

But also me visiting Remus in cat prison.

At a Barnes & Noble in Manhattan I noticed there’s a company called Paper Paper Paper that sells fancy collections of paper and I really love this.

What a wonderful thing to find.
Do craft stores carry stuff like this?
I’ve never seen this before.
I also discovered that one of the best people on the planet wrote an autobiography recently and I’ll be reading this in the near future.

Rick Steves writes my favorite travel guides.
He’s never pompous or preachy.
Too many travel books are written by people with loads of money to spare.
Rick knows how to keep it cheap and won’t judge you if you hitchhike.
Lost on Planet China.

This looks like a good one, too.
I’ve got a camping trip coming up soon.
I should get some books to read while I’m out.
One of the reasons I take pictures of things like these is because I want them, but I try not to impulse buy them.
These pictures are reminders of things that I wanted previously and if I still want them the next day then I’m allowed to buy them.
The Paper Paper Paper packs are a bit pricey, so I haven’t bought them, yet.
Like $35 on the low end.
I wonder if there are any good alternatives.
A quick search later
Nope. Paper Paper Paper is the good stuff.
I still can’t bring myself to spend nearly $40 on paper, but I may give scrapbooking a try in the near future and we’ll see if I can work my way up to this being a good purchasing decision.
Until then, pizza.

And Penny.

Tomorrow Lauri is leaving town to go and visit family.
I’ll have the place to myself.
I should get some whisky and play more EverQuest.
