๐Ÿฅค Here in old New York, I Have a Postcard Plan

This week I solemnly swear that I will complete more pages of Wreck This Journal, mail more postcards, and take more historical tours!

And then tell you about them.

A good week starts with postcards.

A great week starts with homemade postcards.

This postcard for an Alani drink can and Washi tape went to my friend Tony in Michigan.

He gets the most postcards from me. We’ve know each other since high school.

This postcard was about the bird stickers that I’ve been putting on my postcards and also about how I send him so many postcards.

I love these dumb bird stickers.

I made several postcards with the Alani box and this one was shipped to Canada with postcrossing.

I wish I had one of those giant swinging blade arm cutters.

I can see that I didn’t do a great job of cutting a straight line on this one.

I’m putting together a batch of postcards for letters against isolation as well.

It’s nice to write a lot of messages to strangers.

New York CityPASS

We’ve heard good things about this and so I decided to make a spreadsheet and it seems like it’s an okay deal for tourists if you plan to take full advantage of it for the most expensive items.

For locals, not so much.

But hey, if you like it, please don’t let my spreadsheet bring you down. Enjoy what you enjoy.

Here’s a video of Penny in a blanket on the couch.

She’s loves to burrow.

This seems offensive, right?

I picked this up at an antique store the other day in Poughkeepsie.

Oh, I forgot to write about that.

I had a long chat with the clerk at the store about the world and he showed me the oddball items in their collection.

I just came for the postcards.

This one went to Tony.

Wreck This Journal by Keri Smith.

I’ve been attempting to complete my second copy of this book.

Well, third, if you include the one I lost in Canada back in 2011.

Today I have completed the “Cover this page with white things.” page.

I also received Betty White stamps in the mail today.

Maybe I should have put one on this page.

Oh, and code breakers stamps!

Y’know what? I’ll put a white, but non-white thing in the book after all.

I’m going to also complete the “Glue random items here.” page.

And I have also figured out a way to attach these two pages together.

Success.

I am also considering my letter W collection complete.

As for the “Sell this page.” page… I have an idea.

I’ll mail it to Tony with some bookmarks and request a PayPal payment to my email address.

That pirate one is from a little booklet with stickers to customize the character.

Oh, and there is also a “Wear the journal as a shoe.” challenge in the book.

It is now complete.

But now for a dumb story.

My partner Lauri enjoys Celsius.

But sometimes I do dumb things like this.

I make no excuse for my poor behavior.

I saw a subway rat.

Here in Queens we live near the Museum of the Moving Image which is a fantastic museum, but it also has a delightful theater.

We watched Titanic here, today.

It holds up.

Sunday July 6th, 2025

Today Lauri and I will visit the Merchant’s House Museum for a tour.

I’m glad that I was able to make this visit as it sounds like it may become difficult to keep the building’s displays as they are now.

Last week I visited the Vanderbilt mansion which shared a lot of stories about treating the staff well.

This is not the same as the stories told here.

So many servant bells.

This museum was able to use census data to determine that many workers were hired and then left employment here.

This is one of the main views here, and one that is in danger of degrading.

Fancy plaster.

During this tour I learned about the racism against the Irish who were migrating to New York City around this time.

There were displays of signs warning people not to leave their children with Irish maids otherwise they would whisk them away to baptize them.

I mentioned this to an Irish co-worker who said “Wouldn’t it have primarily been the protestants moving to the U.S. from Ireland?”

Bigotry is a weird and dumb thing.
