Another week full of adventures big and small! Crafts have been completed, postcards have been mailed, Broadway shows have won Tony’s, and choirs have been choired. Acquired. Chorded… I’m still learning to write.

I love to read pen and paper roleplaying game books like Dungeons & Dragons.
These get my creative juices flowing. I catch myself creating adventures in my mind. “What if the team were presented with a cryptid who was killing, but only out of necessity and was trying to find a way to quit?”
My favorite RPG books on my shelf get paper bag book covers.
Today I have decided to give Mythic Game Master Emulator a nice cover.
After making all of the cuts and snips to size the cover, it’s time to fold and tape the book cover together so that it will hold its form.

The next step is to decorate the book with stickers and Washi tape.

The back of the book gets stickers with butts.

It is a fine book and is now memorialized on my shelf with a custom cover.
Maybe I should get a label maker so that I can have the name on the spine.
One of those fancy label makers, not the kinds used for making name tags at restaurants.
Adding “buy a fancy label maker” to my adventure list.

Sometimes I feel like I’m sending too many postcards to my friends, and when this happens I can send a card on postcrossing or I can prepare a bunch of cards for Letters Against Isolation.
Today I chose the latter.
I wrote out six postcards, selected a retirement home to send them to, put them in an envelope and shipped them off.
Since there is no need for postage on the postcards, I cover that spot with a sticker. Of a stamp. I covered the real stamp spot with a fake stamp.
I have a whole book of stamps for mail, so there’s not shortage of these.
They don’t look real, they have rounded edges and have unusual values on them like “12 cents.”
Here’s a picture of Remus in a shoe box.
When she loves a box, she digs out its corners. Why do cats do this?

I recently returned home from a three-day camping trip and so I sent my pal Tony in Michigan a postcard about it, using this lovely lava lamp card.

I don’t know what it is about this postcard, but I really enjoy it.
It’s a little bit small. It’s flimsier than most. It’s matte on the front rather than glossy which is different than most postcards.
It just feels and looks nice, I suppose.

I forgot to add to my notes who this postcard went to, so let’s just make something up.
This postcard was shipped to Mars, Venezuela and contains a fantastic cheese boat recipe.
I’m sure this postcard was actually mailed to a friend. This is one of the postcards from the American Museum of Natural History in Manhattan. I made a special trip back just to buy more of these postcards. A delightful place to visit if you ever have the time. I’m a big fan of watching the leaf-cutter ant enclosure.
In the evening we went to a friend’s choir performance at a high school in Manhattan.

The choir is made up of alumni from the school. What a delightful way to get a group of folks together.
Afterwards we went out for a nice dinner.

That was good guacamole.

Today we are visiting one of the historic sites on the website for the Historic House Trust of New York City.
Now that I’ve written out that last sentence, I’ve gone to double check and I don’t see Weeksville on there.
I don’t remember where I found out about this place, but here’s their website and tour information.
They have politely asked that no pictures be taken of the inside, and so I only have pictures from the outside.

During our visit there was also an event for black men’s health happening.
This is a top-notch tour and the other folks on the tour were very talkative and we all shared knowledge with each other.
It felt like our tour leader was a guide and the rest of us snuck in extra bits of information in where we could.
Truly a wonderful experience. Highly recommend.
Also, I usually delete these images, but I’m going to share a few below.
I like to try to recognize various forms of life, specifically trees, but I also look up other plant, animal and insect life as well.
I run these through mobile apps so that I can learn to recognize different types of plants.
This was something that came to me during covid, that I wanted to be able to just look at a tree and know if it’s an oak or a maple.
It turns out I really like maple trees. I’ve ben spotting a lot of Japanese maples hiding here in the Northeastern part of the U.S.

I’m afraid that I don’t recall what type of tree this one is, but one of the reasons why I write this blog is to look back on adventures and to remember fond memories like this.
I think that I’ll try to keep better notes about the plants that I find for future blog posts.
Sneaky wife pic for the subway ride home.

Got her.

Today is the day for the Tony’s, the award show for Broadway plays and musicals and so we made it a point to buy tickets to see Operation Mincemeat again on this day.

This time we are sitting higher and more centralized in hopes that we’ll be able to hear the lyrics better this time.
Also since I’m partially deaf in one ear, I have opted-in to requesting a hearing device for this show which is available at all plays and musicals to anyone who would like one.
I cannot suggest these enough.
I used one for the first time recently on a historic tour, and I now plan to use one any time they are offered.
I spend a lot of time smiling and nodding hoping that I can figure out conversations based on context. It’s just part of who I am thanks to breaking my middle ear bone back in the 90s. It has never occurred to me that there are solutions and that they are useful.
This has been truly a gift that I did not know I wanted or needed.
The show was fantastic and I am happy to report that Operation Mincemeat won some awards.
If you’ve seen the play, then you know the part that earned this win.
Truly a spectacular display of writing, acting, singing, and love.
And then everyone from all of the shows rushed over to Radio City Music Hall for the Tony’s.
Here’s some pictures.

Oh hey, that’s the guy from Dead Outlaw.

Now back to Queens and a lovely little bar called Q.E.D. to watch the Tony’s.

Everyone we wanted to win, won.
We’re especially excited to see Cole Escola take home a trophy.
What a wonderful night.
I hope that your night is wonderful, too.
