Postcards!
This one is off to China.

This one is going to my pal Tony.

I’m using big stickers on the back of postcards.

And sometimes small writing.

I am also using my Tony postcards as a way to practice drawing.
This postcard is going to Mike in Lincoln, Nebraska.

It also gets fantasy map doodles.

Here’s a postcard from Slovenia and a postcard from Germany that arrived today.

Time to go out for a walk.
I can see the Roosevelt Island Lighthouse from here!

I’ll zoom in.

There is a teeny tiny beach here to relax on.
A lot of folks bring their dogs down here.

So I steal their puppy souls through photography.

Three more puppy souls added to collection.
That’s 7 more years of youth in human years.

Here’s a postcard for Dan in Austin, Texas.

As I’m walking around I notice a sign about public waterway by the Costco.

Sure enough.

It’s more than just membership savings, it’s a public waterway.

Today is a cleaning and eBaying day.
I still have so many PlayStation 2 games to sell.
I estimate around five-hundred.
Today my partner Lauri and I will get back to our food alphabet challenge and complete B for Brazil at Berimbau Brazilian Kitchen.
I’ll start with a nice drink.

There’s some blurry lady behind it.

Oh, that’s Lauri.
It’s hard to tell when she’s being so blurry.
I ask our wonderful server Dino (who is wearing a Dino dinosaur toy) what he suggests, and this earns me an amazing burger.

The host stopped by and asked me something.
I figured she was asking of the food was good so I smiled, nodded and said “Yes!”
It turns out she was asking if I wanted another drink.
So I got another drink.
Off to a cat-owned book store next!
MOTHERFUCKING BLOOD MAPLE TREES!

When we lived in Austin, Texas I spent a good amount of money having blood maple seeds shipped to me which I watered, sealed in plastic bags and kept in my refrigerator for a month to simulate a Japanese winter. I then planted the seeds in pots and out of about fifty seeds, like two sprouted.
A few months later of loving and tender care, the sprouts were looking nice when a strong wind knocked them over and they died.
These seeds that I paid to have shipped to me I keep finding in random places around New York City, Boston, Philly and pretty much everywhere.
I get so annoyed whenever I see one of these beautiful trees that sprouted and didn’t die like a little baby.
Also I forgot my backpack at the restaurant which was more than a mile back, by this point.
Heck.
No cat store today.
We watched skateboarders at Washington Square Park until we got drenched in rain and went home.

A picture of my postcard setup.

My good pens and markers on the left with the postcard stamps.
Fancy pens in cases.
The wooden… “thing” with postcards, washi tape and my secondary-pens.
On the right is the plastic holder for pencils, highlighters and normal pens. Except that one that looks like it has a pearl on top of it.
That is not a normal pen.
I use that when I am a dungeon master.
It is not a good pen.
But it looks neat.
Today the plan is to visit Jamaica Bay.

I already have the national park passport stamp from this park as it one of three locations for the Gateway National Recreation Area, but it seems like a nice place and I don’t just do the visits for the stamps.

Besides. They need me.
The sign says they need me!
They don’t need me, unless they’re trying to find the ticking sound.
We’ll come back to that.

They have a lovely visitor center and gift shop and they are willing to let us borrow binoculars in exchange for leaving our IDs with the rangers.
What a deal!
Here’s a bug I saw.

I brought my phone-cam macro-lens with me on this trip.

Back to the bug.

There’s an osprey nest here!
There was a ranger with a telescope pointed at it.
I shoved my phone up against one of those eye holes to get this picture.

How cool is that?
Back to the macro lens after geeking out at the bird for a while.

I use various apps on my phone to identify and learn about these apps.
We return our binoculars and chat with the rangers some more.
I ask them if they’ve gotten used to the ticking sound and one of the rangers replies “What ticking sound.”
Another focuses and says “Oh… I can hear that.”
I don’t stick around for much longer, but by the time I leave I have a few awesome bird postcards and the rangers are up on a ladder looking for the sound.
I would consider this a success.
Back to the bus stop.

Time to get some food.

Let’s complete another letter in the A to Z food challenge.
How about C for Cantonese?
Bodhi Kosher Vegetarian Restaurant ought to do it.

We must study the menu to determine the best groupings of sharable foods.

“I say we order the yummy stuff.” says Lauri.

To which I reply “That’s a smart move, Lauri.”
And we order yummy stuff.

A delightful meal where we order some safe foods and some experimental foods.
Not all items were a hit, but not all were a miss either.
It was a unique and adventurous meal.
(And Lauri didn’t say “I say we order the yummy stuff.” I just like to say she says things like this since I get to do the writing and she’s not here to defend herself).
It was a good weekend.
I hope your weekend is good, too.
Time for us to head home.
