๐Ÿ” Museum Mischief and Culinary Curiosity: Solo Shenanigans in the City

Sunday April 6th, 2025

Mi esposa is still out of town, so let’s sneak out and be naughty.

We’ll take a historic tour of the Fraunces Tavern Museum.

๐Ÿ˜ˆ

Delightfully devilish, Seymour.

I won’t spoil the tour, but there are two highlights at this museum.

  1. During the revolutionary war both the U.S. and England were offering to free enslaved people for their support.
  2. George Washington said goodbye to his military compatriots here after the war.

As for item number two, it is wild to hear this because while listening to the story from the fantastic tour guide, I look down and I see a painting of the scene that is being described.

I’m standing in this room in the painting!

This is a fantastic museum with an amazing tour guide!

Let the naughtiness continue!

Tonight is a drinking night.

After tossing back a few drinks I have the genius idea of putting sour cream into a sloppy Joe sandwich.

Oops.

Spilled a little.

There.

All cleaned up.

No one will ever know.

Issa good sandwish!

Full water bottle next to the bed and a bucket as well.

A little bit sore, but not too dehydrated this morning.

I did not drink too much last night.

High five!

What kind of havoc shall we wreak today?

It is too early to decide.

First, some bookkeeping.

Last week we went to the Tenement Museum, but didn’t bring our book to stamp. I was hoping to buy one of the little circle stamp stickers to get stamped, but they didn’t have these for sale at the shop, so I stamped a postcard instead.

I’ve been thinking about trying junk journaling as a method to collect these stamps, but I would like for there to be a way to rearrange them.

These stamps are so hard to keep tidy.

For now I am using string to add this stamped postcard to my national park passport book.

Also, now that I am sobered up from last night, I should figure out of that sour-cream sloppy-Joe sandwich from last night was any good.

Attempt number two.

Success!

It is a good sandwich.

Nay, a PHENOMINAL sandwich!

Okay, sober Levi enjoyed the sandwich, but it’s not groundbreaking.

If you enjoy sloppy Joes and you enjoy sour cream, give it a shot. It’s a nice way to mix up a classic.

Postcard time!

This one is off to Austin, Texas as a “thank you” to my previous therapist.

People really enjoy getting something other than bills in the mail, and a nice postcard is a beautiful thing.

My dentist in Austin has a thank you card that I sent him on his wall.

That feels nice.

Send a thank you postcard.

Get postcard stamps. They’re only 53 cents here in the US.

While we’re on the topic of little nice things, I have a trick to show you that I picked up in Michigan from my friend Heather.

See this?

This is a bag of string cheese.

The top has been cut off and each individual bar of cheese has been separated from the “chain” of cheese.

By pulling them apart and putting them back into the package with a smooth opening it is much easier to grab a quick snack.

It is a small thing, but it is delightful.

It feels good.

Oops. Forgot to wreak havoc.

Today we are sending a postcrossing postcard.

I will also be shipping this with some bookmarks, so we’ll wrap this in newspaper.

Sprinkle tape is always a good call.

Heck it, let’s add some stickers.

The recipient is also a stamp collector, so I have added an empty stamp sheet to the collection.

Um.

If that sounds weird, there is a title and design on the sheet.

This is something that is requested by the stamp collector folks.

But now we must science!

Fill two cups with warm water.

Weight down some string into them, with a low hanging droop for the water to drip from.

The dripping is working as expected.

Add as much baking soda as will dissolve to the two glasses and wait for stalactites and stalagmites to form.

This may take several days.

I will report back! ๐Ÿซก

What the heck is the dollar store selling these days?

Mac & cheese gummy candy?

Sounds interesting.

“Fruit flavored?”

Weird, but I’m game.

Here is a picture of the all of the mac & cheese candy, minus one piece in the garbage can.

This is a terrible candy.

This tastes like someone tried to make a gummy version of a blood orange using only chemicals and sugar-free sweeteners.

Today I am going through my adventure list and adding items to a map.

Several of my adventure list topics are trips to visit places that I have heard about that sound interesting.

A place where I can swim with manatees or pet a capybara.

There’s an abandoned mine shaft that is flooded that I can take a kayaking tour of.

After adding these all to a map there are two “bundles” of spots.

A handful in Florida and a handful around the Kentucky/Virginia area.

I may plan a road trip around this.

I’m also going through my bookshelf and reading over some of my adventure books.

I’m out of room.

I should get rid of some of these books.

Some might be worth selling on eBay, but most will be added to a give-away or sell pile.

But I must be careful and not remove too many books, as these are the background for my postcard photos.

This is a postcard that I made for my pal Tommy in Michigan.

I need to fill the adventure books shelf.

I can see some books falling over on the right side.

Friday April 11th, 2025

So today I got a postcrossing card that asked for postcards made from candy boxes, so please don’t tell them, but I dug that macaroni & cheese candy box out of the garbage to make a postcard.

Added a whale sticker.

This postcard is off to The Netherlands!

I will share the story of how awful this candy is.

*bleh*

Time to check on the science experiment.

This is some progress, but there is one problem.

The string is missing.

I found it laying on the floor.

It is only myself and the cats in the house, and I didn’t remove the string…

On one of my recent posts I mentioned some drama surrounding government requirements when it comes to horse hair sofas.

I have the article documented in my notes, so here it is for your reading pleasure: https://insidersguidetofurniture.com/why-we-stopped-horse-hair-furniture/

I need to be better with my adventure list notes.

One of the adventure items is “Look into artist Wren McDonald.”

I have completed this and I would love to put together a jigsaw puzzle of their art.

I do not remember why this was added to the adventure list.

If this was a suggestion from someone, I’d love to shoot them a text, or email as a “Thank you.”

Adventure list progress has been made.

One update is that I now have a column for “added on.”

One day I would like to make adventure cards to share with folks.

A nice and tidy bit of gathered info where folks can select from adventures that sound like something they would enjoy that they can check off of their adventure list.

As my adventure list evolves I’m able to get meaningful data from it and trim out bits that are not important.

I’d love to share more than these stories.

There are a few adventure books out there that stand above the rest.

I would like to build something like these, but I don’t know what that looks like, yet.

For now I will continue to gather data.

Here is a pie chart of the categories of my incomplete adventures.

The weekend starts tomorrow and I have another New York City historic site to visit.

Cheers.
