๐ŸŽคFrom Rakugo to Rigoletto: Wintertime Fun

Friday January 3rd, 2025

I continue to enjoy sending postcards made of “stuff” to my pal Tony in Michigan.

Today’s postcard is a banana sweet’s box and the conversation on the back of the card is about my upcoming trip to visit Tony.

Saturday January 4th, 2025

Today we went to the romantic musical comedy Maybe Happy Ending.

A delightful musical about two robots who live across the hall from each other.

Sunday January 5th, 2025

I did it! Today I made my own postcards on moo.com!

I went digging through old pictures and picked some of my favorite adventure moments and a few images that look nice and I ordered a set of 25.

I can’t wait for them to arrive in the mail!

Monday January 6th, 2025

While I do wait, let’s send another postcard to Tony.

This time featuring an image of Uranus.

Thursday January 9th, 2025

The custom made postcards have arrived!

The first one goes to a postcrossing user in Finland.

And then there’s this thing.

For the life of me I can’t remember where I got this card from, but the “Howdy howdy howdy” sticker is one that I’ve had for a while.

I am known to occasionally quote the pig from Toy Story when he puts on Woody’s cowboy hat and says “Look at me! I’m Woody! Howdy howdy howdy!”

It’s a great homemade postcard.

Friday January 10th, 2025

Today marks our first opera!

We have tickets to see Rigoletto, which is an opera based on a play from 1832.

The Metropolitan Opera House is a lovely building.

In case you are wondering, there are subtitle displays on the back of the seats (since I don’t understand Italian).

Wowza! That is some drama in that opera!

The definition of trifling.

Certainly worth the visit.

I would suggest bringing cheap binoculars.

Sunday January 12th, 2025

Another postcard to Tony where I share my desire to work at a science museum.

How cool would that be?

Monday January 13, 2025

I want to learn how to draw and I hear folks talk about “The Loomis Method” quite a bit when it comes to drawing faces, so I tried to buy the book, but it is quite old.

1930s old.

I have decided to download the book instead and it really feels like my drawings are looking like they’re from this era.

Here’s my first attempt (also on a postcard to Tony).

On this postcard I shared a recent story with Tony where I found my partner’s phone laying on the bed while she was watching television.

I took this opportunity to record myself committing a crime.

I took a selfie and then several images depicting the steps of finding a tissue and putting that tissue inside of one of Lauri’s shoes.

Tony has confirmed today that the two dollar bills have arrived in Michigan.

Tuesday January 14th, 2025

There has been a post floating around on Facebook and on postcrossing about a second grade classroom that is requesting Valentine’s day postcards from around the country.

They are hoping to receive one from every U.S. State.

So I did my part and sent in one from New York.

They say that they plan to send cards back, but I’m going to assume they are absolutely flooded with cards and I won’t hold it against them if they do not send one back.

Here are more of these old timey doodles that I am learning.

Oh, and I sent a normal postcard to Tony where I share my methods of tracking my daily goals. (I have an online spreadsheet)

And I can see that I sent another postcard as well, but I forgot to document it in my notes.

Let’s pretend this one went to Thomas Haden Church, the hilarious actor who plays Ned in the best television program titled Ned & Stacey.

Saturday January 18th, 2025

We’re off to see Katsura Sunshine’s Rakugo again!

We had so much fun at the first show that we bought tickets to the next one as we were leaving the venue.

It was another fantastic show and he is now mentoring two students!

(Also we bought tickets for his show again next month).

Sunday January 19th, 2025

After sending all of those postcards to Tony, it is time to send myself to Michigan.

Here’s a chonky squirrel in his backyard.

In my notes for this day I have written “‘The party aisle” – tony does hand gesture.”

I can’t remember the hand gesture, but I remember we were at a dollar store and he said “The party aisle” and made some kind of gesture that made me laugh a lot.

It is a good start to a Michigan adventure.

While grocery shopping I learn that Tony has a gift for picking the best line at the store.

I was not aware of this when we were leaving and we got stuck in a line that did not move well.

Monday January 20th, 2025

Tony & his partner Heather like to put together jigsaw puzzles!

So we worked together and completed one.

And then we made friendship bracelets!

Tony’s friendship bracelet has your name on it.

Mine says “Levir.”

Wednesday January 22nd, 2025

Today I walked around in the freezing Michigan weather to look for rocks and I couldn’t find many, but this one that I did find looks like it might have a fossil in it.

๐Ÿคท

Here’s a picture of Penny inside of a blanket tent!

She says “Hi.”
