๐Ÿ Queens Night Market Failure

Friday October 18, 2024

I keep hearing that the Queens Night Market is a lot of fun, so tonight we solo travel out and partake of this food festival!

Hop on the F train out to deeper into Queens.

Go past the stop that I need.

Notice that my map is telling me to take the same train, but in the opposite direction.

Switch to the other side.

Everyone is getting on the next train, but the letter is wrong.

Ask the person manning the gate.

“Yes, that’s your train! Hurry!”

They are correct.

This is my train.

Not sure why the first train skipped the stop, but we got there without too much difficulty.

Also not sure why the train letter didn’t match.

Weekend schedules get weird.

As I approach there are a few food trucks and people out and about, but the webpage assures me that the event is ahead.

I double and triple check the location and it takes me to an empty parking lot…

There’s some noise nearby, though…

Volleyball.

It is not a food market.

Well…

I’m already here.

Might as well wander around.

Oh, at the edge of Queens the houses get big!

I call up my pal Mike and we chat on the phone for a couple of hours while I wander.

At one point I want to get some water out of my backpack and I see a cement fence coming up that I can set my pack on.

As I approach a man who looks like Nacho’s dad from Better Call Saul also walks up to the fence and sets his bag down.

I go around him and do the same.

It is a nice sip of water while chatting with mike.

As I’m putting everything back I look over and the other guy is zipping up his bag too and he gives me a nod.

I think we just had a moment.

I assume he also drank some water or something.

Nice guy.

But this is kind of a bust and I should find something else to do.

I’ll just head into the city and wander around for a bit.

Oh, the skating rink is up in front of 30 Rock!

Good wander and chat, but I should start heading in a direction that points towards home.

I’ll take the tramway to Roosevelt Island and see if there’s anything happening there.

I love this tram.

Okay, Roosevelt island may not have been a good idea.

I was hungry for a tramway ride and didn’t think about the consequences.

There is exactly one restaurant open and they close in 40 minutes.

Heck it, I’m going in!

I’ll have a nice watermelon spritz and I’ll order whatever food the server thinks is best.

This place has reasonable prices for being on Roosevelt Island.

I’ll put together a nice postcard for my pal Mike as well.

I don’t usually like curry, but the server says the Irish Chicken Curry is good, so we shall soon see.

It looks good.

Spoiler: it’s amazing.

10 out of 10.

Get the Watermelon Spritz & the Irish Chicken Curry and Granny Annie’s Bar & Kitchen on Roosevelt Island.

Okay, back to heading home.

This escalator is a long one.

It was nice to catch up with a friend and have a good wander around.

The chicken curry didn’t hurt either.

A good NYC night.

Penny says “Hi.”

Oh! I think the Queens Night Market is over for the year. I was so focused on the location, I didn’t think to check to see if it had ended.
