๐ŸŽฒ I Found My Game Store! (It’s In Brooklyn)

Saturday July 13th, 2024

I ran into a Spotted Lanternfly.

I should have killed it.

I just reported it (7/22/24) to the public report page.

Sunday July 14th, 20024

Today we visited the Brooklyn Museum.

One of the main attractions here is Paul McCartney Photographs 1963โ€“64: Eyes of the Storm

I’m glad we went early in the day, this place was busy and they also requested that I leave my backpack at the front.

This is likely due to the giant water bottle that I had in there as Lauri was allowed to keep her backpack.

It was a lovely visit with a great variety of items to see.

There was one item by the artist Mohamad Hafez that I found to be particularly interesting.

I took a picture, but it came out blurry so please accept a description instead.

It is a minature display of incredible detail of a hanging garden with a vehice and prayer sounds.

Afterwards we walked to an Ethopian restaurant.

This is my first time walking around Brooklyn.

It’s a nice area.

We are trying to try food from around the world by eating food from a country for every letter of the alphabet.

This was the E for Ethopia day, but we sort-of doubled down on this.

Our last day in Austin we also ate at an Ethopian place.

Absolutly fantastic meal, but I did not mean to order a coffee and I sneakly passed it to Lauri when the server wasn’t looking.

Afterwards we had ice cream.

But then, my friends, we got to visit what will now be “my” game store.

I’ve been visitng all of the tabletop gaming stores in the area as each tends to find a niche that is a good fit for their location.

Some specialize in board games, others in pen & paper games and some in war games.

I have been looking for one that carries loads of pen & paper RPGs (think Dungeons & Dragons), but specifically small indie RPGs like Goblin Errands.

And Twenty Sided is the store that I have been looking for.

Unfortunately it’s over an hour away since it’s in Brooklyn & I’m in Queens, but I won’t hold that against the store.

This store is an absolute delight and I’m glad that we found it.

And then we reflected on the failures of humanity on the bus ride home.

Okay, so getting back and forth between Queens & Brookly is kind of a pain.

The regular train that would accomplish this is down for repairs and so MTA has set up busses to fill in for this.

The process is weird.

The busses are free and they fill up before leaving.

Our buss loaded up and skipped one stop which super annoyed the people at the stop.

I assume there was a bus right behind us who came to pick them up, but some hands were thrown up in frustration.

It was very full.

Upon returning home I began one of my favorite micro-adventures of Minecraft & an audiobook.

I am currently plaing modded Minecraft (All The Mods 9) on a server, and on this day I completed Ritualist by Dakota Krout.

This is a fun novel about a man who is dying and has uploaded his mind into an online game. An Isekai novel.

The protagonist has the very rare skill of healing magic, but also secrets that must be kept for his own safety.

A fun read and perfect for a day of Minecraft.

I have downloaded the next book in the series.

eBaying of my video game collection continues.

And of course that’s a postcard for my pal Tony in Michigan that is also being mailed out.

Monday July 15, 2024

Several pages of Wreck This Journal are completed in stages, for example today I added a “white thing” to this page.

It was some excess sticky paper from a roll of stamps.

On that note, the D&D postage stamps come out soon.

Today I was also able to complete the page of good thoughts.

Do not worry if you cannot read this handwriting for even as the writer I am also unable to read this.

The important thing is that the page is done.

One more down.

Now time to give the cats an IQ test.

Pennhy (on the right) is always able to solve all of these.

Keanu is able to solve some.

Tuesday July 16th, 2024

Another morning of getting out of bed early to face the joys of the day.

Today I started with another page of Wreck This Journal.

I recently found the small sewing kit and so today this page will no longer be unwrecked.

Done.

Complete.

Resolved.

Settled.

Satisfied.

Finito.

And then I sent a postcard to my pal Tony.

This is the same card that I tried to send him a month ago that had the ink that got super smeared.

I put plain stickers over everything and wrote on them.

This is one of those things that drives me a little bit nuts with postcards. They tend to be created by people who do not send postcards and thus we end up with ones that are hard to write on, but I consider this a challenge and I am learning.

I’ve had several that smeared and each time I learn more.

Soon I’ll be the ultimate sender of non-smeared postcards.

No one will be able to stop me!

Hahahahahaha!

(and then I climbed on the roof of my apartment)

Okay, before you judge me I had a good reason.

Our postal courier keeps putting mail in the wrong mail boxes.

We keep getting mail for the entrance next door.

I can go to the roof to enter their building and so I dropped off a stack of mail to a neighbor and took a moment to take in the view while up here.

I want to grow plants up here.

Back inside of the apartment, did you know that Penny tries to drown toys occasionally?

Wednesday July 17th, 2024

This has been nice to send postcards and work on Wreck This Journal.

It feels like we’re settling in.

The car is sold, the movers are dealt with (we got a refund of around $800 for the damaged mattress and smashed box of dishes + pillow), furniture has been attained and put together.

Heck, I’m almost caught up on this blog.

I was almost two months behind at one point.

And so today I got up early and did another page of Wreck This Journal.

Oh no.

I’ve just learned to become the master of not smearing ink…

Can I in good concious complete this?

What about all of my training?

My learning?

The smear tests that I have focused so much of my time on?

It’s actually kind of hard to smear ink on regular paper like this.

I even used the super cheap gel pens.

PAGE COMPLETE!

Thursday July 18th, 2024

One item on my adventure list that I should be able to complete soon is to be a member of a live studio audience.

We picked up tickets to see Stephen Colbert.

We did not make it in.

We were just outside of the cut-off line, but we now have priority tickets for another show due to being bumped.

We’re keeping an eye on the upcoming guests.

So we spent the night wandering around and seeing Times Square, since I have not yet done this.

Too many tourists.

Okay, maybe it’s more the narrow walkways than the tourists.

Saturday July 20th, 2024

I went to FAO Schwarz.

This is that toy store from the Tom Hanks movie Big.

The one with the giant keyboard.

It’s a cool store.

I did not get pictures with the nutcracker men at the front of the building.

Maybe next time.

Probably next time.

Our friend from New Jersey came to visit and we went out for some Ice Cream.

I also got to visit the Manhattan Kinokuniya store!

In the basement they had those pens where you can click different parts to get different colors of ink, but you could buy various colors to make custom ones!

How cool is that!

I also hit another New York bingo card moment when I saw a lady successfully flag down a yellow taxi.

It’s official.

I am now a New Yorker.

Remus says “Give me some New Yorker pets, then.”
