๐Ÿงšโ€โ™€๏ธ South Mountain Fairy Trail

Saturday June 22nd, 2024

Part of moving to New York City has been selling our car.

We have it parked at a friend’s house in New Jersey as the parking here in Queens is difficult and/or expensive.

We ended up going through Carvana, but on this day we made the two hour trek to New Jersey and the pick-up driver missed the three hour window that was set.

We needed to return home to give Penny her medicine and so we were unable to finish selling the car, but while we were waiting we went on a short hike at the South Mountain Conservatory Fairy Trail in Millburn, New Jersey.

The Wikipedia post for this location is an interesting read, and their official website is here.

What an interesting set of events that led to this location.

My partner Lauri & I shared our theories about how this trail came to be.

^Not a fairy house.

One thing that I track daily on my adventure list (a spreadsheet) is my DuoLingo progress.

My goal is to get the monthly badges.,

This helps me to spend more time learning languages than just to continue my streak.

As of June of 2024 I have a year of earning a badge every month.

While it feels like the learning process is very slow it’s fun to see the occasional bits of Japanese that I can read now.

The next big trip will be Japan, so every little bit helps.

Check out this gnarly old dinosaur postcard that I picked up.

I sent it to my pal Tony.

The keyboard and mouse on our gaming computer are going out.

The cord has not taken well to years of bending due to gravity.

So I broke out a twenty year old keyboard that is also a PlayStation 2 controller.

The keyboard is USB and I have a USB adaptor for the controller part and so old technology was able to save the day.

One item that I have been debating to add to my adventure list is “hopping a turnstile” on the subway. I see people hop them all the time.

On this day the entrance to the subway was especially packed and someone was holding the exit door open so that folks could get in for free and to avoid the slow turnstiles.

I was easily peer pressured.

Am I proud of myself?

No.

But I’m going to say this is “good enough” and that I don’t need to hop a gate.

News says they’re adding metal detectors to the subways soon.

Hopefully that’s not annoying.

Saturday June 29th.

We did make it back to New Jersey to sell the car.

No more insurance payments.

During this visit we ate at a very nice sandwich shop and I got Lauri to play salad tic-tac-toe with me.

I’m pretty sure she hated it.

I won.

It was green pieces vs pale pieces.

Sneaky picture of Lauri.

Oh!

She caught me!

Free Tabletop RPG day happened recently.

Here is Remus using my free RPG has a pillow.
