๐ I have been raising ants for some time in an ant colony, but I chose to keep it small & without a queen.
Without a queen there will be no new ants & so when the last one dies, the colony is over.
Today was that day.
Antony has passed on to the next ant realm.

He did his best to maintain the tunnels after the rest of the colony had left.
Did you know ants have graveyards?
All of the ant corpses were carried to the same location outside of the colony, where I would remove & dispose of them as time went on.
Antony outlived the rest of the colony by about two months.
He was quite the trooper.
That was an interesting experience & I miss Antony, but I don’t believe I’ll have another ant colony. If you would like to try having an ant colony, I would suggest a different style than this wet sand container. I would also suggest more water than the instructions provided to me recommended.

And now we must discuss this abomination that my partner purchased for our new apartment in Queens.
Do not fret, dear reader, for I made my own version of this horrible cat coaster to use in Texas.

Delightful…
But for non-sarcacstic delights, pleas see these basil seeds that some company or charity mailed to me.

I don’t know what the UNCF is, but this was a nice item to receive in the mail. (Please ignore the mess in the background. I’m packing things up for the big move to the big apple).
Back to bad news.
One of our delightful cats Penny has seemed off lately & discoloration in her eyes were the first clue we had.

Our regular vet was on vacation & so I booked an appointment with another local clinic.
They didn’t find anything & I ended up paying for an FIV test, even though the medical documents that I had shared with this vet showed that this had already been completed.
I’m a little bit annoyed about this & I pointed it out to the vet during this visit after I realized the mistake, but they still charged me.
Also they couldn’t find any issues as Penny’s eyes had cleared up during the two days before the appointment.
It turns out Penny has eye herpes & FIP, both things we learned after two vet visits that came back with results.
I want to believe that the first two vet visits did not show signs & this why it was missed, but the third vet had a diagnosis based on just the email we sent.
And so I am frustrated, but I do not have the medical knowledge to know if this frustration is valid.
The good news is that as of the day I am writing this Penny is doing much better & is about halfway through her treatment that should have her permanently cured.

On of my recently accomplished adventure list items is to beat a video game.
As a child the video games I owned were always selected by someone else & new purchases were rare.
As an overgrown child now, this leaves me with a desire to own thousands of games, which I do, but now I have trouble focusing on only one game for an extended period. This is especially true since I’ve converted to PC gaming where free games, game bundles & sale games are everywhere.
I do not think that I am alone with this problem judging by the conversations folks have about their Steam libraries.
A game that I have very much been looking forward to is Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes & in preparation I purchased the prequel game, which I beat (completed that adventure goal).
The game came out this month & it has been a delight to jump back into a RPG character collectathon that pre-dates Pokemon.

Oh, and because I beat the prequel there’s some extra bits in the game.

This game has Iron Chef battles in it.

The move to New York is coming along well. I try to pick an item every day to focus on and today that item is the refrigerator.
It’s nice to have a clean & empty fridge. I should do this more often.

And check out this pro packing. Pictures in frames wrapped in bubble wrap and sealed.

Trying out disc golf is another item on my adventure list and while perusing the local state park events I found that Lockhart State Park is hosting a disc golf training event!
I’ll be honest, I think the rangers are just trying to build up a community around this game in hopes of installing a course here at the park. ๐ค
But for real, this is a great park and I haven’t been here in a long time. Not since I got my Texas state park passport book at least, so this is a double adventure for me. Knock off an adventure list item and get a state park stamp that I am missing.
I always arrive early, so I went poking around and check out this slab of concrete.

PZ was there in 1939.
I wonder what the pole in this slab was for.
Maybe a tether ball?
Check out the awesome caterpillars that Texas has!

But enough park stuff! It is time to learn about disc golf!

I really thought that getting the frisbee within range of the basket would be the hardest part, but the final shot into the basket is by far the hardest and the main item that requires practice.

There was another fellow named Levi at this event as well, so occasionally someone would say “Levi” and we’d reply “Which one?”
The method of throwing. Um. Forward handed (?) was very interesting & useful.
Like you normally hold a frisbee to hour chest and extend your arm and release, but this way of throwing is to hold the frisbee out wide & toss it so it leaves your hand from the opposite direction.
Not something I had ever thought about, but with instruction from the park rangers it made sense and I am happy with the results. ๐

Here is the end of the training and where I mentioned to the rangers another item on my adventure list.
Throwing a boomerang.
As these are disc golf folks I figured I’d let them try it first since they’re better at throwing things and… Um… I’m glad that I did because mistakes were made.
It turns out boomerangs come back.
One landed near a child and the mother was very polite in requesting that we not continue to throw a boomerang in the area.
So we moved and on my first throw I got it caught in a tree.

With a little bit of help I was able to get this down, but more boomerang time will officially have to wait until I have an open area without other people around.
Too much danger zone.
This was the last adventure in Texas.

After a two day drive with my wife and three cats I am now officially a resident of Queens, New York.

Northeastern gas station selfie as evidence.
Here are the last photos from the Austin apartment.
Perched gargoyle Keanu says “Hi.”
