๐Ÿฆฃ Columbian Mammoths in Texas (National Park)

On Saturday March 30th, 2024 I was able to visit a Columbian Mammoth fossil dig site at Waco Mammoth National Monument.

As I know my time in Texas is limited before moving to New York I want to pack in as many remaining national & state parks as possible.

Per my usual habit, I did not research the location in advance. I do this because I like surprises.

This is not always a good idea as some parks have events that should be attended in order to fully appreciate the visit, but for a man living alone in Austin Texas, this was the perfect trip.

Waco, Texas is not too far of a drive. A little over an hour.

The park is not the type of park that I would want to spend the entire day at.

There is not much to hike & there is no camping.

The mammoth dig site is the main attraction and I would suggest taking the guided tour.

I never in my life thought that I would have the opportunity to visit an active dig site and this was a fantastic experience to learn more about Texas and about mammoths.

Having said all of that, it was also a very short visit. The tour and the dig site occupy about an hour. Maybe an hour and a half.

I highly recommend visiting this park, but please do not expect to spend an entire day here.

The postcards they sell in the shop are absolutely hilarious.

They share 1-star ratings they have received online with items such as “One star. They wouldn’t let my child pet a wooly mammoth.”

Hilarious.

This poor mammoth skull was crushed.

It is unknown if this was done by power equipment driving over the land or if this damage was caused much earlier.

I’ve been gathering the national park coins and sharing them with folks here and there.

They are resting on the tour ticket which I could have returned & recycled, but it is a fantastic bookmark and so it remains in my collection.

Delightful visit.

On Sunday March 31st of 2024 I sent a couple of postcards.

One to my pal Tony.

And one to a Texas state park ranger that I had a nice conversation with.

This ranger was able to put into words an issue that I have in my relationship.

She explained that in her relationship her way of solving issues is to pull in and demand attention to the issue until it is resolved, but her boyfriend is the opposite as his instinct is to push away and cool down.

This is an exact description of the issue that my wife & I face as we also have these identical methods of resolving issues that are at conflict.

Thanks to this conversation I have a better understanding of the relationship I have with my wife and I have learned to be more patient.

We still disagree and argue sometimes, but the more that we learn together the less sharp these disagreements are.

I just went to hike, but I’ll take this. This is good knowledge.

As part of moving to NYC, I finally got around to wiping and tossing out old phones.

Remember Flappy Bird?

Or back when Sony used to make video game phones?

Thursday April 4th, 2024.

One of the items on my adventure list is to beat a video game.

I have a bad habit of playing games for maybe a few hours and then moving on.

I reminisce for the old days of seeing a game to completion.

Now that I’m gaming on PC it has become even more difficult thanks to the ease of changing games and giant library that I have amassed.

But I was able to beat a little game called Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising. It is a prequel game to the upcoming Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes game that is a spiritual successor to the Suikoden games form the PlayStation 1 & 2 era of RPGs.

Before Pokemon, Suikoden had you recruiting 108 different characters to your castle. Most of these members could also be added to your party to join on adventures.

The side quest items are really what makes these games stand out, though.

There is a system for an Iron Chef battle and these have returned.

But I digress.

This is the small prequel game that I have beaten, not the full RPG.

I do not have a picture of beating this game, so take this as an offering instead: a picture of Low IQ Man in my team during a round of Dead by Daylight.

Keanu says “Hi.”
