An exhausting morning after a night of Fight Opera and off to help tear down a tent at. Um. The fair?
It looked like a fair.
A BBQ tent raising money for charity needed to be torn down and I volunteered.
I think that I may have misunderstood the instructions about showing up early enough that it would look like I was just trying to get into the fair for free because after getting in and parking it took me about 15 minutes to find the place.

The instructions were fine, but no one was awake. After a bit of asking around I found the right tent and someone woke up and gave me some starting instructions and I began the teardown.
The person who helped me get started was not my contact, but after a couple of hours of work I started to ask around and met the guy who I had been chatting with over email.

I left awkwardly during the award ceremony just before the bulk of the helpers showed up.
Exhausted.
While I was using my phone and looking at the map to determine the best way to get home I took a quick peek to see if there were any places on Atlas Obscura nearby and there is an old asylum that has been repurposed in the area.
The former State Colony For The Feeble Minded.

Picture from the car because it felt a bit like I shouldn’t be here and I wanted to leave quickly.
There are several interesting old buildings in this area.
My favorite drink of all time is Eggnog.
It’s thick, festive, perfectly spiced and it just brings me so much joy… and a few extra pounds every winter.
I hear that homemade eggnog is better than store bought and so I added “make eggnog” to my adventure list.

The first step is to sort the egg yolks from the egg whites.
Need plenty of sugar.

Some “tempering” is involved.

And voila! Frothy nog delight!

This was so delicious that I teared up a little.
I wonder if I could make a double batch next time or if that would be too difficult.
Tuesday March 5 aka “Super Tuesday” I am a poll worker for Williamson County, Texas.
No pictures allowed during all of this, so you’ll just have to trust me that it happened.
It was a good day to vote in the primary, though it was a bit awkward as Travis County voting was in the same building, but a library employee was very kind and gave folks directions on where to go.
Here’s a postcard I received from postcrossing!

And here’s some Taco Bell.

I ate at a Taco Bell up by Waco, Texas on my way to Mother Neff State Park on the 10th, but that will be for the next blog post.
Here’s a picture of Penny being disrespectful.
