Monday January 22nd 8:28 pm, Austin, Texas. Dark, cloudy, 52ยฐ F (11ยฐ C)
I try to get a Duolingo badge every month and I am excited to say that January is now in the bag.
1,147 day streak and every badge since June of last year.
I look at my badge count to remember when I started trying to have an adventure every day because getting a Duolingo badge every month was the first item I ever started tracking on my adventure list.
But on to postcards.
With the new year also comes new postage prices.
To ship a postcard internationally now costs $1.55 rather than last year’s $1.50.
There are international forever stamps that can be used despite the price increase, but it’s more interesting for the stamp people if you add a variety of stamps to the postcard that add up to the correct amount.
And so I have looked at the new stamps and added up several varieties to determine which would be best for my international postcards.
Here is a screenshot from the sheet I used to calculate the various options.

Option A only requires two stamps and they are abnormally priced stamps so this would be a good option.
Options D, E & F use 68ยข forever stamps and these have the largest variety and are a good choice.
B, C & D require 3 stamps which is a good count. I ruled out option C as the 53ยข stamps are US postcard stamps and I use these a lot already. Option B uses the 40ยข stamps that I was using last year and so to mix it up I went with option D.
Below are the stamps I purchased, each in a set of 20 for this.

There are some very interesting low value stamps. I picked this variety of 2ยข stamp because the other two options had a minimum $30 order.
Those stamps are likely rare ones. I suspect they are not popular with such a large minimum order.
I did also buy another set of US postcard stamps as most of my postcards go to my pal Tony, at this point.
On that note, I tend to send Tony silly cards made out of items I find around the apartment, but I did recently switch to sending nice/regular cards.
So as a throwback, I sent a silly homemade “garbage” card again.

Look at this smug sandwich with fourteen grams of protein.
I also shipped out a couple of postcrossing cards as well.
One to Canada.

Note that I had to add a 5ยข stamp to my $1.50 selection of stamps used last year.
Four stamps is a bit cramped.

The second postcrossing card for the day was sent to Taiwan.

Canadian user wanted to know about the area and so I discussed caves and the user in Taiwan prefers cards of the ocean.
Today was a treat.
A bit of time also went into playing Dead by Daylight and also some time was spent researching other campgrounds in the area.
The LCRA parks along the Colorado River have interesting events, but they do have an associated cost. I do not know if this makes them better or worse.
I will report back!

Penny says “Hi.”
