Jan 2 & 3 were lost due to cedar allergies. All of my energy went into showing up for work.
Jan 4th, on the other hand, starts with planning for the weekend as I will be alone and road tripping.
The goal is to visit the six Texas state parks in the Northeast corner of the state.
Here is a picture from one of the journals where I was mapping out driving times so that I could plan the best route and knew when to leave.

One of the journals had a “Go on a walk and make something artistic with found objects.”
And so I did.

After some time at work (note that I work from home) I crafted another postcard for my friend Tony.
This time it was a small postcard about three inches by four inches.

This is the origami postcard.
Not a postcard made of origami, which is a fantastic idea, but rather a postcard made of an invitation to an origami performance that I found at a coffee shop in Portland.
We did look into attending this, but there were two issues. First, it was not clear what this event was with the information that I was able to find.
In my head it is similar to The Nutcracker Suite, but with an origami focus.
The second issue is that it overlapped with our time that would be spent at the NBA game that we had tickets for.
The NBA won when placed against the mystery origami event.
I will remain curious about what this event could have been.
I am sure it was delightful.
The final item of note on this day was taking poor Penny to the vet for what may be an eye infection.
Our regular vet is on vacation and so we took a suggestion for a different nearby locally owned clinic.
Penny was very hard to capture on this day.

It was all for naught, I’m afraid.
Penny would not cooperate and this led to a bit of confusion.
The new plan was to give Penny some medicine this evening and then to give her more again the next day in hopes that she will be more compliant for a visit the following afternoon.
I thought the vet said the six pills would be free, but I ended up paying $16 for them. Not a big deal, but this was the second of four moments of confusion. I don’t want to dwell on these, but there were several times that information seemed to not match up and twice that I had unexpected charges because of it.
Delightful staff, but I feel more and more frustrated about my two visits here as time passes.
Friday January 5th.
My alarm goes off around 7:15 in the morning.
I hit the snooze button until 8:00 and I begin to climb out of bed.
As I disable the alarm on my phone I notice a calendar event for 8:00 am.
Fuck!
I have a dental cleaning today!
They’re just a few blocks down the road.
I’m probably not stinky.
Grabbing the first clothes that I can find I grab the car keys and rush to the dentist.
All is well.
I do not miss my appointment, though the shirt I am wearing causes confusion later in the day.
The t-shirt in question says “RIP CITY” with the “RIP” part on top and the “CITY” part at the bottom, which just happens to be off camera from where I sit at my home office.
Everyone at my dentist’s office is amazing and it is a delightful visit. I should send them another postcard.
Also they notice that one of my fillings has become unbonded.
I schedule a new filling for Monday and worry that this will cause a toothache over my camping adventure weekend.
I mostly try not to play with it too much as I can feel it with my tongue and occasionally have to pop it back into place.
This afternoon I must give Penny her second pill.
The night before I just sprinkled the powder onto one of her treats and it was no problem, but today I have new treats and she does not take to the first one that I have already poured the pill onto and so I add more treat of a different variety to the top of the first.
No luck.
Perhaps a third treat will be more palatable.
Yea, she’s eating it.
I pour on the pill and she stops and refuses to take another bite.
Heck.
Okay, let’s try a slice of cheese.
Perfect.. she’s eating it. Pour a third pill onto this and cover it with more cheese.
She again refuses to continue eating this snack and I’m running out of time to meet the deadline to have Penny ready for the vet visit.
I’ll spare you the details, but she did eat the pill, she was not hurt, but she was mad at me.

This vet visit went much better and Penny’s eye is fine.
She’s in very good health.
And so I continue my day and find myself sending a postcard to Tony again, this time one with an anti-theft device.

This blanket is a purchase for my weekend camping adventure.
My tent has a broken pole, I don’t own a sleeping bag, it will be nearly freezing temperatures, but I am going anyway.
I do not remember why I took the following picture.

Penny says “Meow.”

Truly the onomatopoeia of a cat.
