๐Ÿœ๏ธ Let’s Build a Fantasy World Pt. 2 – The Floating Cube of Briovox

Let us return to the world of Hallgrim and answer some more questions about this place

I have three sets of world building questions and I used a dice roller to determine which question to ask.

I rolled a 27.

Question 1: What are the seasons? On Earth, we have four seasons, Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn.

Answer: Samsies. 4 seasons, Winter, Spring, Summer & Autumn. I wish I had a more fun answer for this, and there are certainly more interesting responses, but I do not want to veer off too far from- fuck it. In winter there is a single hour of ice storm that happens at the same time every year. Icicles of a small to medium size will fall. It is extremely dangerous to be outside during this hour, but some simple preparation such as a temporary shielding over a home or a stronger roof means there will be no issues.

Some less than savory sorts have forced people outside during this hour in hopes of causing their death and making it appear as an accident. No one believes that anyone that dies outside is an accident, though. Who’s that stupid to forget about the hour of icicles? Signs are erected and everyone talks about it and preps for it every year.

A death from this event is a clear sign of organized crime.

Another set of questions and another dice rolled. Result: 286

Question 2: Why would you not want to spend a single night in this worldโ€™s most notorious prison (or alternatively, why would you not want to be caught for committing a crime)?

Answer:โ€‚For the most serious of crimes punishment is the spirit’s removal from its body. The process for this is to place the criminal into a small cage and to lower it deep below the surface in the darkest of dark places.

A spell is cast that follows the chain down to the prisoner and the soul is ejected from the body.

Buy the time the spirit is awakened the body has been pulled back up to the surface and from here two things happen.

The spirit is left to wander in darkness and confusion. It cannot see, it does not know which way is up, it does not even fully understand if it is moving. These are all things that could be tested and determined by the spirit if it had been released on the surface, but alone and in the dark it does not even know if it is wandering to eventual freedom. Truly a dark torture saved for only the worst of the worst.

As for the body it is up to the ruler of the area to determine what will be done with it. It can be magically ordered to perform very simple tasks such as pulling a cart, some prefer to have the body be destroyed so that it can never be reunited with the lost spirit. Some leaders prefer to display the living vessel as a reminder of the punishment that awaits the worst of the worst.

Next question. 19 rolled.

Question 3: Question 19: Can you tell me about your world’s seven (or other number) wonders?

Answer: No. I’ll give you one. The Floating Cube of Briovox.

It’s been around for as long as anyone can remember. It cannot be approached. Or it can be and the world will forget after. Anyone who attempts to approach the cube is found back at their regular life with no recollection of attempting or even wanting to attempt to approach the cube. No one remembers details surrounding an approach and while there are rumors of people who have approached and have taken notes, the notes cannot be read as their knowledge and the note will be lost if read.

Truly a conundrum.

The Floating Cube of Briovox says “Return to your home and forget today’s events.”
