I would like to spend some time here & there building a fantasy world. I have gathered a few lists of world building questions and I will answer them bit by bit to slowly build a fantasy world.
I may use this in a pen & paper roleplaying game in the future, but I just want to have some fun with worldbuilding, because it’s just a lot of fun.
Let’s plan to do both big and small aspects. We’ll build the world & the history, but we’ll also build characters and discuss events in their lives.
Question 1: Does this world have magic?
Answer 1: Yes. This world has magic.
Question 2: What is this world named?
I will now use my favorite name generator until I find a name that I enjoy.
I’m back. The world name generator is a bit disappointing, so I stuck to the fantasy character name section and went with “Dale names – Lord of the Rings” to find the name of our new world.
Answer 2: The name of the world is Hallgrim
Questions 3-5: Suppose I’m transported to [3] the most pleasant place in your world; [4] where would I go for lodging, [5] and what should I order off the menu? [Source]
I see three topics to discuss in this question and so I have added the numbers to the question to label them for myself.
Let’s grab a location name for this most pleasant place. [Source]
I rolled and received “Springwick” but I read it as “Sprungwick” and I like the sound of that better.
Answer 3. The most pleasant place in this world is the city of Sprungwick
I do not want to get locked into too much building, yet. I’ll keep this answer simple and not delve into why it’s the most pleasant place, yet.
I’ll be using the Dale name generator again for the name of the place of lodging. [Source]
Answer 4. Kelda’s Tavern is the best balance of cost vs quality for lodging for an outsider in Sprungwick.
As for the food, I’ll again use a generator. There is a fantasy food generator and it did not disappoint. I selected an item from the first list with no refreshing. [Source]
Answer 5. Falchion Dark Beer Fruitcake
It turns out a Falchion is a 13th century curved sword of European origin.
Thanks to the strong beer and spices this drink has earned its sword name. Unfortunately for our outsider Falchion Dark Beer Fruitcake is an acquired taste. It takes some time to build up a human palette to enjoy this dish. I’m sure that our visitor bolted up on his first and scrambled to the bar to order a drink to wash this beast of a flavor down.
Hearty laughs were had all around and folks shared stories of the first time they had tried this unusual dish.
Our guest did not have to pay for his drink in the most pleasant town of Sprunwick at Kelda’s Tavern.
I believe we have ourselves a character here. It seems to me that he is a 40-something male from Earth who has found himself in Hallgrim but is able to recognize that he’s in a fantasy world. We shall name him… Rob.
Question 6. Who is our visitor?
Answer 6. Our visitor is a 40 year old male from Iowa City, Iowa named Rob Kowalawinski. He is trying to blend in with the folks of Sprungwick and find his footing. He was able to sell some of the metal coins in his pocket for the local currency, but he only has about enough to get by for two weeks. He’ll need a plan if he is to continue living here.
Luckily he has earned a warm welcome with his head-first dive into Falchion Dark Beer Fruitcake.
In fact the local blacksmith Hob Bramblethorn has taken quite a liking to Rob. Hob-
Wait.
We can’t have Hob & Rob can we?
Fuck it. Let’s just run with it.
By the way, I just made up Rob’s name, but I used a Hobbit name generator and got Hob’s name.
What a coincidence.
So.
The local blacksmith Hob Bramblethorn has taking quite the liking to Rob. He recalls when he was new to the city and his first visit to Kelda’s.
Hob also recalls the dire circumstances that led him to leave his homeland.
Dun dun dun. Cliffhanger.
Question 7. Who is the first friend Rob makes in Sprungwick?
Answer 7. Hob Bramblethorn, a local blacksmith with a troubled past.

Keanu says “I bet Hob’s backstory is filled with sadness.”
