Today we are working on Explore Every Day page 63.

I found a website that picks a random location on the map of the world. My first try picked a spot in the ocean and I could have chosen to select the nearest body of land, but this would make the odds very heavily pointed toward picking a coastal city, which is not a bad idea, but also not truly random and so I rolled again.

Papau New Guinea

All of the travel advisories say to watch out for violence and piracy, but I think this is the travel advisory for anywhere outside of the US, and so I choose to move on.

Please note port Moresby along the Southern coast as it is the cheapest location to fly into, but just to the Northeast of this location is New Britain which has a delightful town named Rabaul.

Another interesting item of note is that the locations closest to my random location selected (Latitude: -5.86167, Longitude: 144.47973) have very nice reviews with low star ratings which is a topic that my wife & I were discussing with a barista recently.

Reviews such as “Delightful place. I love it here!” 1/5 stars

While working on this review I fell into the rabbit hole of searching for random travel. I would love to buy a cheap flight out of Austin one day to anywhere that’s less than $100 and just have a nice time wherever I land.

There are services that offer these random travel packages, but the common consensus is that they are fantastic if you’re willing to pay top prices for them, which I am not. I’m happy to plan it myself to cut the costs in half.

I’ll be headed to Michigan to visit my friend Tony next month. I need to put some real planning into that. So far I’ve only found places with funny names to take pictures at because I’m a child.
