๐Ÿœ Ant Farm, Books, Creative Cooking

Austin, Texas – Wednesday August 23rd 9:34 am – โ›… 84ยฐ F (29ยฐ C)

Today has been a research and prep day.

I’ve been preparing to build a small alcohol stove, but there are a few items left to build this that I do not have such as fiberglass & epoxy. I do have a drill, but the battery only holds a charge for about 60 seconds, so by the time I order all of the parts it may be more affordable to just buy one instead.

I’m pondering which is more important, the DIY aspect or the affordability/reusability of the device. I think I’m leaning towards the latter.

I will report back!

Today I ordered a small beginner friendly ant farm. I will wait for it to arrive before I order ants to live inside of it.

It’s fascinating to me that there are multiple places that sell ants.

Also; there are exotic ants. I don’t think that I want to deep dive this project, but we’ll see how I feel as things go along with this starter kit. It is modular and can be expanded if I so desire.

I was looking at books at Barnes & Noble the other day and of the six that caught my interest I purchased one in the store and then ordered three online. The other two will be library check-outs as they are more expensive than the rest and also because I think they’re more of a one-time-read situation (they’re both big hardcover Lonely Planet travel books).

The small book that I purchased is small camping adventures for children and you know what? I’m stealing those kids’ ideas.

Egg catapult competition with friends? Sounds fantastic. I will 100% be doing this.

And one other topic that has been on my mind is that I should be doing a better job of going through the cabinets and fridge to use up food that has been around for a while.

The goal is to find food that should be used and to focus on only purchasing produce to go with it.

This is because I want to be better about eating fresh foods, want to eat cheaper and because I think our kitchen is a bit over-stuffed at the moment.

I have a small book that I’ve been writing down ingredients and I have cleaned out one cupboard while making the list, so far.

We have also added a dry erase board to the fridge to list items that we want to focus on using.

My lovely wife caught what I was doing and last night she made me a delicious meal using the artichokes that I added to the list.

Frozen and canned.

I’m excited to have less food in the kitchen and to try out some of the experimental items that we have purchased. This is also an excuse to toss out some of the items that I just don’t enjoy.

Thank you for reading this, enjoy the day and Keanu says “Hi.”
