Holy moley a lot has happened in the last few days.

A new kind of candy was tried. This is a good one.

But the next topic is the blanket fort. This topic got into my head. In my head I went back and forth between the two extremes of “Make it big and elaborate” and “Just throw some blankets over the table and call it a day.”

What finally got this micro-adventure complete was my wife jumping in and taking charge. “Do we have rope? How about binder clips?”

Between the two of us we got the fort up and running and to celebrate we watched Shiey’s newest YouTube video.

We watched a mega-adventure inside of our micro-adventure.

And now I must repeat the story I heard about Andice, Texas.
“There was a store out in the country that had a sign that said ‘Beer And Ice’ but after a strong wind blew away the beer sign all that was left was ‘Andice’ which became the name of the store and of the town.”

I ordered a burger and onion rings and asked if the story was true and the folks at the Andice General Store were kind enough to tell me.

If you’re curious about whether this story is true or not, then I suggest stopping in to this lovely store and asking.

This delightful establishment also sold $5 post cards that I have on good authority were on Antiques Roadshow. I bought the squirrel one which I will send to my next Postmates address as one of my cards landed in Germany today.

Based on the advice of the folks in Andice, my next visit was to Florence, Texas where I found a delightful library and learned more about the area.

Of note; this library has a dog.

But let us also discuss the mystery portrait.

That woman in the white dress is lovingly referred to as “Florence” by the librarians as it is an unknown person and created by an unknown painter. This is one of those “found in the grandparent’s attic” situations. If you are an art enthusiast then perhaps this is the sort of mystery for you.
Based on the advice from here I visited a couple of stores in Florence and ended up spending $4 on a partial roll of bailing wire before heading home.

Next up is this carrot cake which I baked thanks to a challenge card game that my wife recently purchased. Here is the card that led to this.

The “Compost this page” page of Wreck This Journal continues to receive coffee grounds every morning.

In the challenge of having food from many different counties, one for each letter of the alphabet, we completed I for India this week which is keeping us on our goal of five new restaurants in the month of July. It feels like so long ago that we started this challenge and had our first brush with Palestinian food.
And now for an unusual adventure…

My lovely partner and I were visiting second hand shops one day and I thought it would be fun to visit an out-of-town one as they seem to have more “hidden gems.”

Two miles before we arrived at the location I had plugged into Google maps the pavement ended.

And then we went through a gate.

And then over cattle guards. It really felt like we were somewhere we weren’t supposed to be. The path didn’t have enough room for two vehicles and in our heavy hybrid I had to drive very slowly to avoid scraping the bottom of the car on the path.
Around the final bend we had arrived. The store was real, though it felt abandoned as we never saw another person during our visit.

It is now Sunday evening, the sun will be setting soon and I feel nauseous due to the buttered popcorn that I ate while we watched the Barbie film.
It’s been quite the adventure and I look forward to sending out the new postcard tomorrow morning before clocking in for work.
Thank you for joining me. ๐
