Mud, Australia, braids, Jack-o-lanterns 7/2/23

A for Australia

The challenge from our Everyday Adventures book is to eat food from a country for every letter of the alphabet. Last week was P for Palestine where I tried shawarma for the first time. It was absolutely fantastic and for our second food item we went to Two Hands here in Southern Austin, Texas. Fantastic food and an amazing staff.
Something to note about this challenge: Two letters don’t have a country associated with them, so twenty-two letters remain after today.
Also of note, there are two letters that each only have one letter. We’ll do our best to stay faithful to this challenge even if this means we will need to prepare some upcoming food items at home.

Document Time Passing In A New Environment – Wreck This Journal

Okay, so this one went a little bit off the rails. My wife was dropping off some books at the library, so I just started looking around and writing everything down… And then I noticed the repair shack… I may have done a little bit of spying.

This Mud Smelled Bad – Wreck This Journal

We don’t get an awful lot of rain in Austin, Texas so I went to a storm drain to find some mud…
Lauri made me check it for bugs when I tried to set it in the window to dry out.
Correction: Lauri reminded me to check it for bugs.
It smelled bad, but there were no bugs.
After this page dried out the book has continued its previous smell of maple syrup.

Threw The Book From A High Place – Wreck This Journal

I did not take the slide down.

There was no one around to see me or to judge me, but I chickened out…

Next time I’ll take the slide.

Palm or Finger Painting – Wreck This Journal

I thought it would be fun to watch how other people were wrecking their journals on YouTube and most folks made theirs pretty. I don’t think I want to make mine pretty, but seeing this did give me a desire to put in more effort. And so I dug out the first paint that I could find and I went to town fingerprint-painting a thing.
Radioactive ghost bunny?

More Wreck This Journal

Devise a way to carry the journal everywhere? Yeah, I suppose I did this.
Blades of grass complete.
Turning that page black with found items took some time. I finished it off at my apartment complex’s front office with a borrowed marker. They’re very patient with me there.
Ahhh, the cover this page with outdoor items. This one is hilarious to me, but has made this book difficult. So I thought it would be funny to tape a rock onto this page which, I mean, is super funny but also has made this book farm more difficult to work with. I’m glad I had this great idea near the end of this challenge as I have had difficulty working around this dumb thing.
You try drawing on a piece of paper with a stupid rock underneath it. Or don’t. I’m not your father. (I might be your father.)
Remember that smelly mud page? That whole trip was documented on page 59.
Wrecked badges were completed by co-workers while on a work trip to the arcade. Thank you co-workers.
Lines documented.
Dead bugs. So this is one that I refused to do as written. Maybe they were going for a butterfly collection kind of idea, but I don’t want to keep a bunch of dead bugs in a book. I’m 100% comfortable with most silly gross things, but this one was too far for me. In order to check this one off I bought some toy gross out bugs at the toy store. I am happy with the idea of the toy spiders worshiping the toy cockroach.
10 tiny things was also completed at Terra Toys. I had two items in this page before July 1st and I knew I would need a plan to get this one completed. Terra Toys has a nice selection of tiny little 25 cent toys. I say “25 cents” but I’m sure it was more than that. Between the bugs, the small items and dice that I purchased I spent about twelve dollars.
Also; I got complimented on my Fight Opera shirt while I was there. We talked about the skeleton that we helped get high at that show.
Oh, and the tiny thoughts page. I just kind of filled that in when it suited me. This was usually in the morning just after making my coffee, but before clocking in for work.

Post Cards – postcrossing.com

One of the other micro-adventures that I have been playing with is postcrossing.com.
This is a website where you can sign to send and receive post cards around the world.
You add a code to the post card which the receiver can use to mark it as received and this will unlock your address to go out to someone to send you a post card.
When you join the website you have a limit of five cards to start.
As of today I sent the initial five cards and three so far has been marked as received. I have sent one additional card and have two more that I can send.
I have not yet received a post card, though I’m sure some will arrive soon. My hope is that I can tell where the cards are coming from as I have started a map for the cities that the cards are being sent to and are being received from.

Post card #6 went to Tokyo. I have been learning Japanese on Duolingo so I took the opportunity to write Tokyo in Kanji on the card. I have a lot of ideas about what makes for a good post card and I asked the first recipient about this topic as well and I guess just putting in some effort is good.
This person told me to be prepared for some duds. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

I purchased some old 1940s cards to mail out as well as some local cards that we picked up after the Australian restaurant today. I will probably write the next two cards after I finish this post, or maybe tomorrow morning after I’ve had my morning coffee. โ˜•

Which Founding Father Had The Juciest Butt? – Wreck This Journal

As you can see I was sitting on the steps to my apartment while completing this.
Also the thinker in this drawing was also outside pondering.
I pondered a ponderer outside while outside.
Also; top contenders are George Washington, Teddy Roosevelt & Garfield.

Choose Your Own Adventure Pages – Wreck This Journal

Thinking about crafts must have sent my mind to holidays as the first that I came up with were wrapping a gift & making a Jack-o-lantern.
The Jack-o-lantern page had stuck to the page behind it which is what led me to the idea. I wanted to incorporate the hole in the page into the selected topic. I could not find my X-acto knife to complete this, but scissors did just fine.
Braiding a page? Sure. Throw down some highligthers, some scissors and then tape it together so it doesn’t fall apart. Done.
And then there’s Nate Fox… My Frankenstein. This one made me feel like I’m a creep and now that Creep song is stuck in my head. Double damn. But I still had fun.

This Annoying Challenge – Wreck This Journal

This one has you write a note and leave it somewhere. This just feels like littering, but I made sure to put good advice on there, which in case you can’t read this it basically says to use the phone number 867-5309 whenever you need to enter your phone number at a store. Great way to just push through that whole “No, I don’t want a card.” thing.
The cashier will probably confirm your name, so just say “yes” to whatever they say and hope that whoever owns this account is getting some points or something.
I have 3 left to leave out in public and then this one will be complete. I don’t much care for this one, but I will play along. No harm done.

Three More Pages Completed – Wreck This Journal

Document a day: Completed including someone’s shopping list that they had littered in the parking lot. I did leave one of those notes at this grocery store so I may not be entirely innocent of littering. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ
I like to think I made up for it with this bit of cleanup, though.

A map of Austin with locations where this journal was wrecked by me including Pinballz, Central Market, something something Park, Terra Toys & home.

Autographs! Co-workers, folks at the best dental office in Austin (Austex Dental) and apartment managers. Deeeeelightful.

Upcoming Adventure: Old Map – Everyday Adventures

Behold the 1973 map of Austin & San Antonio Texas! This was purchased on eBay in preparation for an adventure where we will compare old & new Austin.
I don’t think Loop 1 or highway 360 exist on this map. (I think that’s Lauri’s phone prison that snuck into this picture).

The Compost Page – Wreck This Journal

I’m not doing a good job of composting this page, but I am trying. I have watered it and covered it with coffee grounds three times by now. The flower pot it is in keeps drying out and I think I’m just going to call this one a success and retrieve it and tape it back into the book. I know it wasn’t a great compost run, but it wasn’t for the lack of trying. I have learned new things for if I ever decide to compost at home.

Oh, and the doodles! Also by co-workers while we were at Pinbals. – Wreck This Journal

What a lovely set of doodles. Thank you wonderful co-workers of mine.

So this is another week of micro-adventures.

In the coming week I will be sending more post cards, wrecking the last few pages of this journal, preparing for more Everyday Adventures and also setting up to start a new Wreck This Journal (The Now In Color edition.)

By the way, if you know of any places to get more micro-adventure ideas, please let me know. Here’s an email address where I can be reached at: qf4zwaqy9tg9@opayq.com (this is a forwarding service address that I can disable if it gets spammed).

Or maybe this stie has one of those comment sections below. I’m not really sure. ๐Ÿ˜„
